2/4/2004 - Enea Embedded Technology, the leading provider of embedded solutions and services for the communications market, announced its second major PowerQUICC III design win. Motorola’s automotive electronics group has selected the OSE real-time operating system (RTOS) and Metrowerks’ CodeWarrior Development Studio for a custom PowerQUICC III board that will be used in the group’s next-generation communications platform.
“Enea’s sales and FAE support were major factors in the selection of the OSE RTOS for our system,” said a Motorola representative. “Their sales and support teams spent long hours on the phone and on site to assist in porting OSE to our custom hardware. OSE’s prompt “hands on” customer support was the deciding factor in our selection.”
“We see our second PowerQUICC III design win as clear proof of our ability to deliver high quality products, on time, in accordance with our product road map and ahead of our competition,” said Adrian Leufvén vice president marketing of Enea Embedded Technology. “OSE’s high availability, memory-protected architecture, deterministic real-time response, message-based RapidIO support, and advanced system level debugging tools make it the pre-eminent platform for developing distributed PowerQUICC applications.”
“PowerQUICC developers with stringent time-to-market constraints should find OSE particularly appealing,” added Leufvén. “OSE’s tight integration with CodeWarrior provides an out-of-the-box solution that lets PowerQUICC designers hit the ground running. Board bring up for custom PowerQUICC boards like the one used by Motorola is typically just one day.”
OSE for PowerQUICC III includes the OSE RTOS, development tools and board support packages for Motorola’s 8540 und 8560 processors. The OSE RTOS is a compact, fully pre-emptive, high-availability, multi-processor RTOS designed for distributed, high-performance, multi-channel, multi-function communications applications. OSE enhances reliability and availability by providing automatic failure detection and supervision and using the PowerQUICC’s hardware MMU to build a firewall that prevents kernel and application processes from corrupting each other.
To streamline distributed communications, OSE’s Link Handler employs hardware- and application-independent messaging passing, which makes interprocess communications transparent to programs running on different CPUs. The Link Handler is ideal for the PowerQUICC III’s RapidIO switch fabric, taking full advantage of its 10-Gbit/sec data throughput and guaranteed delivery.
Enea Embedded Technology offers complete PowerQUICC III tool support for OSE. OSE’s Illuminator provides RTOS-aware, system-level analysis and profiling that enables programmers to monitor, control and collect data for applications viewed as a sequence of events. OSE Illuminator is tightly integrated with the Metrowerks CodeWarriorTM Development Studio (PowerQUICC III Edition), which addresses all aspects of software development, including hardware evaluation, board bring-up, OSE kernel adaptation, application development, project management, RTOS-aware debugging (source level and system level) and code coverage. Additional tool support includes the OSE Softkernel, which provides hardware simulation.
OSE board support packages are available for Motorola’s 8560 ADS and Torridon boards, as well as GDA Technologies’ RMC 8540. Enea also supports Metrowerks’ PowerTAP PRO ICE (In-Circuit-Emulator) for PowerQUICC III.
The OSE RTOS for PowerQUICC III is available immediately. The OSE LinkHandler for Torridon Rapid IO will be available in May 2004.
