2/4/2004 - IDTTM (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; Nasdaq: IDTI), a leading communications IC company, announced performance enhancements to its RC32365 InterpriseTM integrated communications processor with an integrated hardware accelerated Internet Protocol security (IPsec) engine, resulting in a 20 percent frequency improvement over the initially announced speed. In addition, IDT has released significant optimizations of its software support for the processor.
The RC32365 processor now achieves an overall frequency of up to 180 MHz with 70 Mbps of IPsec throughput, better enabling the device to satisfy the growing need for performance in the small and medium enterprise (SME), small office/home office (SOHO), residential gateway and wireless access markets by enabling greater system throughout and IPsec acceleration. In addition, the company announced that the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has certified the IDT processor’s cryptographic algorithms per the guidelines of the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS). The security engine on the RC32365 processor and supported algorithms, including DES, 3DES and the advanced encryption standard (AES), are certified as compliant with highly stringent government standards, making it a viable solution for related applications.
“With this announcement, IDT is furthering its commitment to driving security acceleration and system perfomance into the SOHO and SME access markets. The RC32365 processor, with security throughput of up to 70 Mbps, expands the breadth of solutions available from IDT that satisfy the growing needs of security-accelerated gateway applications,” said Matt Jones, marketing manager for the IDT Internetworking Products Division. “Furthermore, the NIST certification of our cryptographic algorithms verifies that our internally developed intellectual property is capable of passing rigorous certification processes. Our customers can be confident that IDT is providing solutions that truly deliver best-in-class security functionality.”
“To develop our VPN-based gateway appliance, it was vital to find a processor that met our system cost, scalability and time-to-market goals while allowing the designers access to a comprehensive suite of software development tools and local technical support,” said Bernard Jen, head of research and development at Unication, a Taiwan-based manufacturer of communications products including home gateways and wireless LAN equipment. “The IDT RC32365 integrated communications processor meets these needs and delivers an optimal combination of security functionality and performance to aid in the development of best-in-class solutions.”
About the RC32365 InterpriseTM Processor
The RC32365 InterpriseTM processor is a single-chip device with an on-chip security engine that bridges the gap between the SME and residential gateway markets. The RC32365 integrated communications processor incorporates a 32-bit MIPS® CPU core operating at up to 180 MHz with IPsec throughput of up to 70 Mbps. The processor integrates an SDRAM memory controller and two Ethernet MACs with industry standard media independent interfaces (MII), an integrated 32-bit version 2.2 peripheral component interconnect (PCI) controller and a 16-bit PCMCIA version 2.1 interface. The processor is compatible with a range of popular embedded operating systems, including Linux® and VxWorks®.
As part of its commitment to provide comprehensive hardware and software tools that reduce design cycles and improve time to market, IDT offers an internally developed, license-fee-free, royalty-free IDT Linux-based software package that includes extensive peripheral driver support and market specific optimizations, as well as comprehensive libraries for many protocols and applications. IDT also provides security-specific software to support the RC32365 processor, including a “crypto API” that facilitates the integration of the customer’s proprietary software with the RC32365 specific hardware drivers and an integrated shareware security package, called FreeS/WAN, based on the embedded Linux operating system. IDT has also partnered with Intoto, a leading third party security software provider, to provide a complete, certified VPN/firewall solution for the RC32365 InterpriseTM platform.
In addition, a suite of third-party MIPS software development tools is also available to help reduce project design cycles and improve time to market. The RC32365 processor is software compatible with the other members of the InterpriseTM family, allowing customers to choose from a suite of proven, off-the-shelf applications and development tools.
