2/2/2004 - White Electronic Designs Corporation (NASDAQ:WEDC) is pleased to announce the release of their 32M x 64 DDR SDRAM. This advanced component provides both optimum density and performance in one package.
The 256MByte (2Gb) DDR SDRAM is a high speed CMOS, dynamic random-access, memory using 4 chips containing 536,870,912 bits. Each chip is internally configured as a quad-bank DRAM.
White’s 256MB DDR SDRAM uses double data rate architecture to achieve high-speed operation. The double data rate architecture is basically a 2n-prefetch architecture with an interface designed to transfer two data words per clock cycle at the I/O pins. A single read or write access for the 256MB DDR SDRAM consists of a single 2n-bit wide, one-clock-cycle data transfer at the internal DRAM core and two corresponding n-bit wide, one-half-clock-cycle data transfers at the I/O pins.
Benefits include space savings of 73% versus Thin Small Outline Package (TSOP) and 43% versus Fine Pitch Ball Grid Array (FPBGA), a 21% reduction in I/O versus TSOP and a 13% reduction versus FPBGA and reduced trace lengths while increasing density.
The package, organized as 32M x 64, utilizes internal die stacking technology in a 13mm x 22mm, 208 plastic ball grid array (PBGA), 286mm2. It is suitable for multiple high density, high performance applications including high-reliability applications and is available in commercial, industrial and military temperature ranges.

White’s 32M x 64 DDR SDRAM, part number W3E32M64S-XSBX, is priced at $250.00 (US) each in volumes of 500 pieces with a lead-time of 4-6 weeks.
