ACE Targets Fast Lane Compiler Generation with CoSy Express Technology

2/2/2004 - While embedded processor developers are already enjoying the integrated hardware/software design tools that are currently hitting the market, the most critical and in most cases lacking element has been appropriate compiler generation tools. These emerging design tools represent a significant paradigm shift, allowing a whole new breed of users to participate in architecture exploration and design of Application Specific Instruction set Processors (ASIP). As the premier developer of compiler generation products, ACE Associated Compiler Experts is introducing the CoSy Express technology, which provides the missing compiler-generation link in the tool design flow. CoSy Express will become available for OEM licensing in the course of 2004, for production and distribution in specific market segments.

ACE's CoSy compiler development system has gained a reputation in the professional compiler developers community, as a robust, flexible and independent compiler development platform. CoSy reduces development time for a quality/performance compiler from years to months, offering significant cost benefits. CoSy Express expands this highway by providing an efficient and effective means to generating compilers for the broad range of processor architectures.

Developers of today's sophisticated and heavily integrated silicon, such as flexible or reconfigurable processors and Systems on Chip, are faced with increased pressure to meet ever-shorter development deadlines. In order to meet such stringent schedules, it is paramount that creating and adapting compilers needs to become more efficient, so that new compilers can be re-instantiated in the design and exploration cycle of these complex architectures. Coupled with the limited industry expertise in compiler development, the time is ripe for the CoSy Express technology.

Each instantiated CoSy Express is a full and complete compiler generator, capable of generating optimized and robust compilers for new architectures in the shortest time possible. For example, CoSy Express integrated with an ISS generator allows full application simulation while adding the compiler dimension to architecture exploration. More importantly, this can be accomplished while making adaptations to the architecture. Thus, full architecture exploration and optimization is enabled for the first time in the industry.

Vendors of configurable processor architectures can integrate CoSy Express technology in their compiler tools and thus provide their customers with optimizing compilers that truly match and deploy the specific features of the hardware.

Developers, who need to equip their CoSy Express compiler with market specific features, can migrate to CoSy and use its full flexibility in order to obtain a best-in-class compiler.

"The role of CoSy Express in architecture design completes the hardware/software design flow with compiler technology and enables rapid adoption of these emerging architecture development tools," said Marco Roodzant, vice president of marketing and sales for ACE. "Continuously over the last 28 years, ACE has redefined paradigms, setting new benchmarks for construction time and quality in the production of compilers for processor architectures. Our CoSy compiler development system has obtained a unique position in the professional compiler developer community. We expect that CoSy Express will enable a new generation of processor development due to quick and easy compiler generation."

CoSy Express will only be made available through OEM License agreements.
