12/22/2004 - Lattice Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: LSCC) announced that the editors and readers of EE Times have selected the LatticeECPTM and LatticeECTM FPGA devices as an "ultimate product." Further, EE Times readers ranked these FPGAs first for their technical significance, and second for their likelihood of use, in the programmable logic category.
According to Executive Editor Marty Gold, "Our expert editors select 10 of the most significant products introduced during the quarter - in each of seven categories - and then, using an electronic balloting mechanism, we submit these products to selected, qualified readers of EE Times and eeProductCenter. Readers rate these products on 'technical significance' and 'likelihood of use.'" Gold added that over 1000 readers participated. Explaining the selection of the Lattice FPGAs, eeProductCenter's Jon Gabay said, "The new LatticeECP-DSPTM and LatticeEC FPGA devices were architected from the ground up to find that sweet spot which provides the most optimized feature sets with the lowest total solution costs."
Praise For Lattice FPGAs Readers were invited to include comments with their votes. "Low-cost integrated DSP is essential for more and more applications," wrote one reader. Another reader observed, "The parts seem to have found a niche that is currently unfilled in the low-cost FPGA market." Yet another simply noted, "Wow!"
"Recognition of our LatticeECP and LatticeEC FPGAs by the editors and readers of EE Times is extremely gratifying," said Stan Kopec, Lattice vice president of corporate marketing. "The combination of low-cost, high performance and unique features offered by these products is creating widespread interest and early design success with our customers. To be voted number one in the Programmable Logic category speaks to both the technical importance and versatility of these FPGA devices."
About the LatticeECP and LatticeEC FPGA Families
The LatticeECP-DSP and LatticeEC FPGA device families are architected to provide the most optimized feature sets combined with the lowest total solution costs of any FPGAs. The new LatticeECP-DSP products, targeted for high-performance DSP applications, provide up to a 50% performance and 75% logic utilization improvement over other low-cost solutions when implementing common DSP functions. The LatticeEC FPGA product family, targeted for general-purpose FPGA applications, is a precise and targeted response to the market's explosive demand for low-cost, architecturally streamlined logic solutions. Through advanced 130nm silicon technology, an optimized architecture and proprietary circuit design, the new Lattice devices lower total solution costs by up to 30% to 50% compared with existing FPGA solutions, and are expected to broaden the adoption of FPGAs within the $20 billion ASIC marketplace.
