12/15/2004 - IDTTM (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; Nasdaq: IDTI), a leading communications IC company, announced that it is sampling its new advanced memory buffer (AMB) device to multiple fully buffered dual-inline memory module (FB-DIMM) manufacturers. The new product is fully compliant with the JEDEC AMB specifications and is an essential building block for next-generation, high-bandwidth applications, such as servers and workstations, which require increased performance and large memory capacities.
A key attribute of the FB-DIMM channel architecture is the high-speed, serial, point-to-point connection between the memory controller and modules on the channel. The AMB chip located on each FB-DIMM collects and distributes the data from or to a DIMM, buffers the data internally on the chip and receives or forwards it to the next DIMM or memory controller. This unique channel structure alleviates buffer latency issues common in registered DIMM technology, enabling designers to use a large number of DIMMs within a single system.
“IDT has consistently demonstrated leadership and commitment to the DIMM market,” said Tom Kao, director of marketing for the IDT DIMM support products group. “The introduction of our AMB device serves as a proof-point of our desire to address the new advancements in server processing power brought on by the emerging FB-DIMM standard. We are pleased to be on the leading edge of companies delivering AMB product samples to market and look forward to helping our customers address the critical ongoing challenges associated with the DIMM market.”
“FB-DIMM provides an excellent opportunity to simultaneously increase both the speed and memory capacity of servers and workstations, thereby improving their data processing capability,” said Jim Pappas, director of initiatives marketing for Intel’s Enterprise Platform Group. “FB-DIMM has the real potential to be an important new server and workstation technology in 2006 and onwards. Many companies, including IDT, are introducing products based on FB-DIMM, helping realize the benefits of the innovative and high-performing memory technology.”
The IDT AMB product is sampling now, with production quantities available during the first half of 2005. Click here for more information about other IDT DIMM support products.
About IDT DIMM Support Products
IDT is a leading provider of timing and logic solutions and has leveraged its core competencies to develop a full array of products for the DIMM market. IDT was the first company to introduce a complete chip set of JEDEC-compliant DDR2 DIMM logic components. The IDT DDR2 chip set includes a register that drives the address signals and supports 1:1 (25 bits) and 1:2 (14 bits) configurations, allowing designers to work with a single device for multiple DIMM configurations. The chip set is also comprised of a 1:10 PLL clock driver used for synchronization of input clock signals from the system motherboard to all SDRAMs on the DIMM. The devices target registered DDR2 DIMMs that address the memory needs of growing market areas such as servers, workstations, and communication devices.
IDT is a global leader in preemptive semiconductor solutions that accelerate packet processing for advanced network services. IDT serves communications equipment vendors by applying its advanced hardware and software technologies to create flexible, highly integrated solutions that enhance the functionality and processing of network equipment. IDT accelerates intelligent packet processing with products such as switching solutions, network search engines (NSEs), programmable content inspection engines (CIEs), flow-control management (FCM) ICs and its family of InterpriseTM integrated communications processors. The portfolio also comprises products optimized for communications applications, including telecom products, FIFOs, multi-ports, and timing solutions. In addition, the product mix includes high-performance digital logic and high-speed SRAMs to meet the requirements of leading communications companies.
Headquartered in Santa Clara, Calif., the company employs approximately 3,200 people worldwide and has a wafer manufacturing facility in Oregon, and test and assembly facilities in the Philippines and Malaysia. IDT stock is traded on the Nasdaq Stock Market® under the symbol “IDTI.” The company is included in the S&P 1000, which is a combination of the S&P MidCap 400 and S&P SmallCap 600 Indices, and is also part of the S&P SuperComposite 1500, which combines the S&P 500, MidCap 400, and SmallCap 600.
