PowerDsine Introduces One-Port 3001 PoE Midspan

12/7/2004 - PowerDsineTM Ltd. (NASDAQ: PDSN), a pioneer in Power over Ethernet (PoE) solutions, announced the availability of its 3001 PoE Midspan, a one-port power hub which is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.3af PoE standard. The newest member of the PowerDsine 3000 Midspan family is designed for remote powering of wireless LAN access points and other low-port density deployments.

A live demo of PowerDsine's new 3001 PoE Midspan will be available at PowerDsine's Booth #625 during Jupitermedia's Wi-Fi Planet Conference & Expo on December 1-2 at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose.

The latest product to emerge from PowerDsine's PoE midspan portfolio, the PowerDsine 3001 PoE midspan eliminates the need for an external power supply and provides remote powering to 802.3af-compliant end- devices, as well as to pre-standard devices.

The 3001 PoE midspan offers an interlocking feature that allows users to scale WLAN deployments by linking together multiple one-port midspans to support additional devices. With the interlocking feature, users no longer have to deal with existing single-port power injector solutions that do not interlock and often cause a disorderly and troublesome entanglement of wires as new devices are added to the network. In addition, by deploying a centralized UPS, the 3001 PoE midspan provides a cost-effective way to distribute back-up power to WLAN access points and increases WLAN service reliability by ensuring continued operation in the event of power failures.

"We realized that the market needed an affordable product that will provide power to low-port density deployments," said Igal Rotem, CEO of PowerDsine. "The 3001 offers a highly scalable solution that is ideal for growing businesses that want to cost effectively deploy wireless LAN access points, network cameras, and a myriad of other Ethernet-connected devices."

Product Availability
Samples of the PowerDsine 3001 PoE Midspan are available immediately with general availability in first quarter of 2005. The list price is $59.

About Power-over-Ethernet Technology
PoE is a technology for wired Ethernet, the most widely installed local area network technology in use today. PoE allows the electrical power necessary for the operation of each end-device, to be carried by data cables rather than by separate power cords. It minimizes the number of wires that must be used in order to install the network, resulting in lower cost, less downtime, easier maintenance and greater installation flexibility.
