12/7/2004 - IONA® Technologies (NASDAQ: IONA), a world leader in high-performance integration solutions for mission-critical IT environments, announced availability of Orbix® 6.2.
The latest version of IONA’s industry leading, CORBA®-based integration technology features customer-driven upgrades to the product’s support for high availability, security, configuration and management. These improvements are directly related to the Qualities of Service (QoS) necessary to efficiently and cost effectively support the day-to-day operations and the inevitable evolution of the large-scale, distributed enterprise systems on which many of IONA’s customers depend to run their businesses.
Recognizing that for many of IONA’s customers their production environments are long lived and subject to ongoing evolution, Orbix 6.2 features extensible configuration. This enhancement ensures that making changes to runtime environments is as non-disruptive as possible, and that administrators, not CORBA developers, can manage and configure complex Orbix deployments. Further, binary compatibility offers transparent migration of enterprise systems from one version of Orbix to another.
“Orbix runs at the heart of our enterprise IT systems where performance and high availability are critical to business operations and uninterrupted service for our customers. IONA understands the performance levels demanded by mission critical enterprise IT infrastructures and true to its history, has delivered feature enhancements within Orbix 6.2 that meet the particular service demands of enterprise IT environments,” said Martin Prater, VP Middleware, Credit Suisse. “Thanks to the extensible configuration features of Orbix 6.2 we anticipate a seamless upgrade across our network, without service disruption, and look forward to the benefits derived from the enhanced features.”
Also new to Orbix 6.2 are improvements to features that ensure the product’s high availability in a runtime environment. The ability to create a single logical server increases the transparency and simplicity of the load balancing and failover mechanisms found in Orbix. Further, the addition of highly efficient and high-performance database support to the availability features in Orbix 6.2 provides distributed enterprise systems with greater overall performance and substantially improved uptime.
Large-scale distributed systems need sophisticated distributed security features. With its new support for clustered security services, centralized authorization policies and enhanced access control lists, Orbix 6.2 improves the reliability, scalability and performance of runtime security features.
“There continues to be ongoing, sustained use of CORBA in many of the world’s largest enterprises, and we’re seeing new opportunities for CORBA in emerging markets and geographies like China,” said Scott Devens, vice president of products, IONA. “The upgrades to our Orbix product line address the real needs of our customers and prospects for highly stable, highly performing, secure and easy to upgrade integration software.”
