Renesas Introduces H8/38076RF Low Voltage Flash Microcontrollers

12/3/2004 - Renesas Technology Europe announced the H8/38076RF group, its latest family of low voltage flash microcontrollers. The group offers extremely low power consumption and an on-chip high-resolution 10-bit A/D converter with wide sampling range which, together with the integrated flash memory, makes it the logical choice for a variety of battery and line-powered applications. These include water and gas meters, security sensors, access control panels and data loggers. The family's highly integrated on-chip components and low cost flash ensure a lower bill of materials for increased functionality.

The H8/38076RF group is based on the high-performance 16-bit H8/300H CPU core and offers 48 kbytes of flexible, on-chip single supply flash memory that is capable of operating from 1.8 - 3.6 V. The flash can be easily reprogrammed without any additional special circuitry, enabling software updates and bug fixes to be carried out in the field. The family also has a power on-chip LCD display controller with integrated voltage booster and constant voltage generator.

The group has a fast oscillator start-up of around 20 ms using an external resonator. This facilitates applications whereby the device spends most of its time asleep in the lowest power modes. An on-chip watchdog timer with integrated oscillator, coupled with power-on reset, allows the family to be easily designed into applications requiring a high level of reliability.

The H8/38076RF group has an integrated USART with built in IrDA interface that is specially designed to operate in a variety of low power modes. A powerful 16-bit timer module is capable of generating up to four channels of PWM output and can be used to drive a variety of motors. Other peripherals include: 24 - 48 kbytes Mask ROM; 1 - 2 kbytes SRAM; 2 x SCI interface; a clock sync interface; a real-time clock; a TPU; 3 x 8-bit timer; an asynchronous timer; 2 x 14-bit PWM; 63 I/O pins; an on-chip POR; and a debug interface. The group is supported by the E7 emulator and 3DK38076 evaluation board.
