11/22/2004 - White Electronic Designs Corporation (NASDAQ:WEDC), announces availability of its new smaller form factor SDRAM targeting high-reliability applications. Organized as 16M x 72, the high density SDRAM is packaged in a small 25mm x 21mm, 525mm2, 219 plastic ball grid array (PBGA) and weighs 2.5 grams (typical). It is suitable for commercial, industrial and military temperature ranges.
Benefits include a 60% space savings versus Thin Small Outline Package (TSOP), reduced trace lengths for lower capacitance, reduced weight and a five times reduction in part count. WEDPN16M72V-XB2X is a smaller version of our previous WEDPN16M72V-XBX, with the same pinout for design compatibility with existing designs. It delivers high density for increased performance in a smaller form factor. It is also upgradeable to 32M x 72 density (Contact factory for information).
For high speed operation, the 128MB (1Gb) SDRAM uses an internal pipelined operation where the column address can be changed every clock cycle. The device offers high frequency ranges of 100 and 125MHz over industrial and military temperatures. It is fully synchronous with all signals registered on the positive edge of system clock cycle.
Pricing and Availability
Defined as part number WEDPN16M72V-XB2X, the 16M x 72 SDRAM is priced at $244.00 (US) each in volumes of 1,000 pieces with a lead-time of 10-12 weeks.
