11/11/2004 - NMS Communications (NASDAQ: NMSS) and LogicaCMG (LSE: LOG) announced that Vodafone Netherlands is the first telecom provider in the Netherlands to introduce its customers to ringback tones. This new service, introduced by Vodafone Netherlands as Welcome Tunes, offers mobile subscribers the opportunity to replace the usual ringback tone with a wide variety of music, ranging from pop, rock, standards, dance, etc., to the latest Top 40 hits or a sound clip.
Traditionally, a caller hears the standard ringback tone before the receiver is picked up at the other end, but in the future, when callers get through to a Vodafone Netherlands subscriber, they're more likely to hear music or a sound clip. What the caller hears depends on their personal ringback tone profile previously set by the subscriber. The service allows subscribers to set their choice of tone depending on who is calling, and when. On the basis of the caller's profile, the correct tune is played. Subscribers can determine settings themselves via WAP or the Web.
"The fruits of our partnership with NMS have paid off with Vodafone Netherlands," said Menno Breedveldt, Sales & Marketing Director, LogicaCMG Telecoms in the Netherlands. "We're pleased to be partnering together to bring a new application to market and believe that the technical excellence of the MyCaller solution, coupled with our experience working with mobile operators, will deliver true value to Vodafone Netherlands and its subscribers."
Vodafone Netherlands' ringback tone service is based on MyCallerTM, the personalized mobile entertainment platform from NMS Communications. LogicaCMG is responsible for the implementation and maintenance of the solution.
"IDC sees great opportunities for ringback tones in Europe, and MyCaller offers operators the possibility of exploiting a market which is already very successful in Asia," according to Lars Vestergaard, Mobile Research Director, IDC EMEA. "The collaboration between NMS and LogicaCMG is yet another example of how to optimize different competencies and drive a new market forward."
"Ringback's impressive adoption rates in Asia indicate tremendous opportunities for mobile operators in other parts of the world," said Brian Demers, Vice President, Mobile Applications, NMS Communications. "Vodafone Netherlands, with its broad reach and history of innovation, is in a position to drive the trend in Europe and we are pleased to be working together with the company and LogicaCMG to bring the first application to market in the Netherlands."
