Erlang Technology Licenses Mercury Computer's Serial RapidIO IP

11/10/2004 - Mercury Computer Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: MRCY) announced a license agreement with Erlang Technology, Inc. for the development and deployment of Mercury's serial RapidIO(R) Intellectual Property (IP) in Erlang's high-end switching solutions.

Erlang Technology, Inc., a premier supplier of data networking components, will incorporate the Mercury serial RapidIO technology into their next- generation product. Serial RapidIO is a scalable, reliable, low latency transport through switches and between devices that is critical to supporting the demands of embedded computing, wireless, and storage applications.

"We are pleased to team with Mercury and to license their serial RapidIO IP," said Dr. Paul Min, CEO of Erlang Technology. "Mercury's successful track record in deploying leading-edge, RapidIO-based solutions will enable us to bring our new switch fabric products to market with lower risk. Our use of Mercury's proven IP will produce more effective and timely solutions for the communications and embedded computing markets."

This agreement is a significant step toward ensuring the availability of multiple sources for serial RapidIO switches. Both Mercury and Erlang are members of the RapidIO Trade Association (RTA). The RTA and its global members drive the RapidIO interconnect architecture. This ISO-certified, open standard seamlessly enables the chip-to-chip, board-to-board, control, backplane and data plane interconnections needed in high-performance networking, communications and embedded systems.

"The capability to deliver RapidIO-based products is key to its market adoption," said Mark Skalabrin, vice president and general manager, OEM Solutions Group at Mercury. "Erlang has impressive experience in high-end switching applications, and with Mercury technology is well-positioned to meet the telecom data plane switching challenges."
