11/5/2004 - Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NYSE: CY) announced that it has added five new products to its FLEx18TM family of dual-port RAMs. All of them in the world’s smallest package — a 144-pin fine-pitch ball-grid array (FBGA). The devices enable designers a shrink board space and increase reliability by reducing pin count.
In addition to meeting the stringent small-form-factor requirements of wireless micro-base stations and voice-over-internet protocol (VoIP) applications, the latest additions to the FLEx18 family offer pin-compatible density migration to future product generations, helping to ensure design optimization and reuse.
“The broadest, most robust dual-port portfolio in the business just got even better,” said Dinesh Ramanathan, Product Marketing Director for Cypress’s Data Communications Division. “Last month we announced that we are sampling the industry’s highest-bandwidth devices, today the smallest package; this is just the beginning of an aggressive product rollout designed to meet the diverse requirements of our dual-port customers.”
The FLEx18 family provides from 512 Kbits to 9 Mbits of synchronous, pipelined dual-ported memory. Configured as 32k, 64K, 128K, 256K or 512K x 18-bit-wide devices, the FLEx18 family provides up to 24 Gbps of bandwidth and allows for easy interface to wide buses. Operating up to 167 MHz, they provide a synchronous SRAM interface to processors, DSPs, FPGAs and ASICs. The FLEx18 dual-port RAMS feature low operating voltage (3.3V) and low standby and dynamic power consumption. These devices include a full range of features such as separate byte enables, master reset, mailbox interrupts for port-to-port message-passing and an IEEE 1149.1-compatible JTAG interface for improved manufacturability.
Availability and Pricing
The FLEx18 family of devices are available in a 144-pin FBGA package running at speeds up to 167 MHz.
