Avnet Provides Pre-Installed TimeSys TimeStorm MVME6100 LDKs
11/4/2004 - Avnet Applied Computing Solutions, a division of Avnet Inc. (NYSE: AVT), announced the immediate availability of a specially developed, pre-installed version of TimeSys' TimeStorm(R) MVME6100 Linux Development Kit (LDK) for companies creating embedded technology applications using the Motorola MVME6100. The TimeStorm(R) MVME6100 LDK will help original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) working with Avnet Applied Computing Solutions bring their products to market quickly and cost-effectively by decreasing the time and effort required to design, test and deliver a Motorola MVME6100-based embedded solution. The TimeStorm MVME6100 LDK is ideal for embedded military/aerospace, industrial automation and medical imaging solutions.
"By pairing the ready-to-run TimeStorm MVME6100 LDK with Avnet Applied Computing Solutions' product design and delivery lifecycle support, we are making it easier for developers to integrate the latest hardware-optimized Linux technology into their Motorola-based solutions," said Dave Kull, VP of Embedded Technologies, Avnet Applied Computing Solutions. "The combination of Avnet Applied Computing Solutions' engineering capabilities and TimeSys' products can help OEMs streamline the product development process, saving them both time and money."
The TimeStorm MVME6100 LDK available from Avnet boots from flash at board power-up. It includes a pre-installed 2.6-based Linux distribution featuring advanced real-time capabilities, including schedulable hard and soft interrupt handlers, priority inheritance mutexes and a fully preemptible kernel. The MVME6100 LDK also includes the Eclipse-based TimeStorm Linux Development Suite (LDS) to speed and simplify development.

About the Motorola MVME6100
Motorola is first to market with a product that takes advantage of a radical new VMEbus to PCI-X bridge, using the VMEbus two-edge source synchronous transfer (2eSST) protocol for significantly faster VMEbus data transfer rates. Transferring more than 300MB/s on the VMEbus, (compared with VME64's typical 40MB/s transfer rate), the MVME6100 also preserves more than 20 years of VMEbus legacy by remaining compatible with previous generations of VMEbus products and protecting users existing investment in VMEbus technology.
Key MVME6100 features include:
- Motorola MPC7457 1.3 GHz PowerPC(R) processor
- Tsi148 VMEbus interface chip with 2eSST capabilities for 320MB/s transfer rate across standard VMEbus
- 128-bit AltiVec(TM) coprocessor for vector processing
- Up to 1GB DDR ECC memory
- Two 64-bit PCI-X bus interfaces, one dedicated to 100 MHz PMC support and the other to the VMEbus bridge at 133 MHz
- Dual 64-bit, 33/66/100 MHz PMC-X expansion slot support
- Dual Gigabit Ethernet interfaces
