11/1/2004 - Trolltech is pleased to announce that its Qtopia software for Linux mobile devices has been awarded Linux Journal's Readers' Choice 2004 award in the "Favorite Embedded Distribution" category. Qtopia votes surpassed second-place MontaVista Linux by an almost two-to-one margin.
Qtopia is the leading development platform and user interface for Linux-based mobile devices. A complete, customizable environment, Qtopia is available in two versions: Qtopia Phone, for Linux-based mobile phones, and Qtopia PDA, for personal digital assistants.
Linux Journal readers represent nearly 100,000 developers and business people in the core Linux community. According to editor Heather Meade, embedded Linux is of increasing interest to the Linux Journal audience: "In its third year on the ballot, the embedded distribution category continued to gain an increasing amount of total votes . . . Among the commercial variants, the PDA environment Qtopia remains the favorite with a strong lead, almost twice the number of votes as the second-place MontaVista."
The Linux Journal Readers’ Choice award adds to growing industry recognition of Qtopia as a leading development platform and user interface that provides the value, flexibility, and performance required for Linux mobile phones and PDAs. Qtopia was also awarded the LinuxWorld Product Excellence Award for "Best Embedded Solution" at the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo last August.
