10/29/2004 - Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq:PTEC) announced that its new PC software application, Phoenix Technologies FirstWare® Recover Pro 2004, won the "Best New Product" award at the October CompTIA Solution Provider Breakaway Conference held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Canadian system builders and solution providers cited the FirstWare Recover Pro 2004 application's ability to help them differentiate their products and services and improve their margins as key reasons for selecting the product for this honor. The awards were decided by reseller executives attending the show, which this year focused on how companies can maintain growth in a competitive environment.
"System builders are keenly focused on identifying products, services and strategic partnerships that give them clear pathways to grow their businesses. We salute Phoenix for a job well done in meeting the needs of this community with its security and recovery solution," said John Venator, president and chief executive officer, CompTIA.
"We understand the business pressures faced by system builders and solution providers, and we are delighted that they have recognized us for making it easier for them to gain competitive advantage while reducing their support costs," said Michael D. Goldgof, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Corporate Marketing and Products Division for Phoenix Technologies. "Recover Pro 2004 is a cornerstone of our technology roadmap to provide our partners and customers with built-in, secure solutions to enable, protect and recover PC systems and digital devices."
About Phoenix Technologies FirstWare Recover Pro 2004
PC users today face rampant cyber attacks through worms and viruses, yet more than 60 percent of all data is still housed in the individual PC and not on a network. Most mobile workers and small and medium size businesses don't have access to dedicated IT staff, making them more susceptible to security breaches and infections.
With Recover Pro 2004, users can automatically back up their PC operating system, applications, user settings and data files and easily recover them in the event of an attack. There is no need for IT support or training, or to connect to the Internet for recovery assistance.
Because the backup and restore functions are built in to the PC's hard drive as a "pre-boot" application, additional CDs, DVDs or a separate USB device aren't necessary to get back to business. After an attack, users will be guided by an easy graphical user interface that requires just a few keystrokes to restore the PC to its pre-attack condition.
Additionally, FirstWare Recover Pro 2004 offers the flexibility for users to choose how they would like to set up the incremental and automatic backups. Restore points can be set monthly, weekly, daily or hourly.
Recover Pro 2004 stores the backup of the PC system image on an area of the hard drive that is safe from the threat of viruses, worms and other forms of contamination. It allows the recovered system image to be isolated and protected from all threats, including from the operating system, where vulnerabilities are common. In the event users contract a virus, with Recover Pro 2004, they will be able to restore their systems to a point prior to infection, and their recovered data would be free from infection or contamination and they could safely return to work.
Recover Pro 2004 is a vital addition to any company's IT security protection regimen, complementing network protection and virus scanning with the industry's most convenient and powerful PC backup, recovery and protection software.
