10/26/2004 - Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a leading data communications and telephony technology company based in suburban Minneapolis, is announcing an RS232 serial port CDMA modem with a built-in IP stack. With the full TCP/IP protocol stack being part of the new MultiModem, users can easily add Internet connectivity to any device that is equipped with an RS232 serial port, making it ideal for non-PC applications such as POS terminals, inventory control devices, or medical monitoring equipment. The new wireless MultiModem can be used to communicate data, voice, and fax over worldwide cellular communications networks, and offers standards-based multi-band CDMA2000 1xRTT performance. The IP equipped RS232 CDMA MultiModem (model MTCBA-C-Nx-IP) is priced at an MSRP of US$379.00, and is provisioned for the specific carrier network on which it will be deployed. The new modem will start shipping next quarter.
“Getting devices connected to the Internet is becoming a necessity for business communication applications,” states Chip Harleman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. “But figuring out how to get the intelligence to handle TCP/IP functions from non-PC hardware can be a challenging task. If your device has an RS232 interface for communicating data, and the ability to pass AT commands to control the modem, the new MultiModem makes connecting to the Internet easier and frees your development time for core applications. By employing our CDMA modem with IP capability, additional Design requirements and software development are virtually eliminated, providing faster time-to-market delivery of an IP-enabled solution over CDMA networks.”
The RS232 CDMA MultiModem (models MTCBA-C-Nx-IP) with IP capability, comes in a rugged industrial chassis design with an RS232 DE-15 voice/data interface, permanent screw-type power connector and SMA antenna connector. The modem features supplementary services such as call forwarding, call barring, multiparty, call waiting, and call hold. It has advanced management features including phone book management, fixed number dialing, real-time clock and alarm management. It can be used as a desktop unit or can be panel mounted with mounting tabs included. It is a CDMA stand-alone product that is a complete, ready-to-deploy wireless modem utilizing multi-band CDMA2000 1xRTT technology. Five LEDs provide operational status indicating power, plus four LEDs for serial port activity.
