Peerless Enables Adobe PostScript 3 CPSI for Riso Color Digital Duplicator

10/25/2004 - Peerless Systems Corporation (Nasdaq: PRLS) (“Peerless”), a provider of imaging and networking controllers to the digital document market, announced the use of Peerless® software development kit (SDK) enabling genuine Adobe® PostScript® 3TM CPSI in the RISO HC5000. Riso Kagaku Corporation in Japan (“RISO”) in January introduced the RISO HC5000 in Japan and just demonstrated the system at Graph Expo in preparation for the U.S. launch. RISO boasts, “At 105ppm, the RISO HC5000 is the world's fastest full color digital duplicator based on ink-jet technology.” The RISO HC5000 targets the color high-speed, low cost, print-on-demand market and offers a wide range of duplicating applications, including manuals, presentation tools, newsletters, direct mail, marketing collateral and sales tools.

“Under Peerless’ Partner-To-DevelopTM program, our customers can work with Peerless’ SDKs to develop solutions that are specific to the needs of their customers and markets,” said Steve Robinson, vice president of marketing, Peerless. “Our SDKs and partnership with Adobe enable original equipment manufacturers (“OEMs”) to bring innovative new products to the market with true Adobe PostScript image and color quality.”

"RISO has built its reputation on delivering products for high speed, economical printing applications. In these applications and the growing office color and print for pay markets, genuine Adobe PostScript is the best choice to ensure image quality and reliability," said Masahiro Sano, General Manager, Overseas Planning, Riso Kagaku. “The Peerless SDK enables genuine Adobe PostScript to produce robust products, such as the HC5000, that address this growing market opportunity with a consistent level of image quality even at volumes of over 100,000 pages per month.”

This effort is an excellent example of Peerless’ ability to provide its customers with technology that can be customized to address specific needs in the imaging marketplace.
