Agilent Demonstrates 1 Gb/s iSCSI Controller at Storage Networking World

10/25/2004 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced it will demonstrate its latest iSCSI controller technology at the Storage Networking World conference in Orlando, Fla., Oct. 25-28, at Booth C1.

"Our second-generation iSCSI controller technology demonstrates high IOPS performance and shares a common API with Agilent's industry-leading Tachyon Fibre Channel controllers," said Erik Ottem, marketing director of Agilent's Input/Output Solutions Division. "Optimized for storage arrays, the new dual-port iSCSI controller is designed to save time and money and reduce risk for our storage networking customers who want to leverage their Fibre Channel code investment into new iSCSI storage solutions."

At the conference, Agilent's iSCSI controller will provide the "host server" and "target server to disk" connections in the storage area network (SAN) demonstration. The IOMeter (I/O subsystem measurement and characterization tool) will be used as an application under the Microsoft(r) Windows(r) 2000 environment to show high-performance, block-level data transmission of 65,000 input/output operations per second (IOPS) using a 512-byte data payload.

The Agilent 1 Gb/s iSCSI controller will be configured as the initiator host server, feeding data through an Ethernet switch connected to a second Agilent 1 Gb/s iSCSI controller acting as the target RAMDisk server. Agilent's iSCSI controller reduces system overhead by fully offloading TCP/IP and iSCSI processing from the host microprocessor. To show Ethernet and Fibre Channel SAN operation, the initiator host server will access data on a Fibre Channel JBOD (just a bunch of disks) storage system through an Ethernet switch and an iSCSI/Fibre Channel switch.
