10/25/2004 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) introduced an extension of its NgN Analysis System to include the H.248/Megaco protocol. The solution's complete view of signaling across both public switched telephone networks (PSTN) and voice-over-IP (VoIP) networks enables service providers to deploy and integrate complex softswitch-based packet networks faster and with higher reliability, increasing customer satisfaction and accelerating service rollout. Interoperability of VoIP with circuit-switched signaling and network service and performance management is a critical element in the successful deployment and operation of next-generation telephony networks.
The Agilent NgN Analysis System correlates the signaling messages used to set up calls and services in hybrid circuit-switched SS7 and VoIP networks. It also centrally correlates inputs from multiple NgN Analysis System probes for end-to-end visibility across multiple softswitches. This enables comprehensive call and performance analysis, allowing service providers to quickly identify and resolve signaling problems as they test, roll out and maintain VoIP networks.
"Signaling in VoIP networks is far more complicated than in traditional circuit-switched networks," said Giorgio Dina, Agilent OSS vice president and general manager. "More calls fail because of signaling problems than for any other reason. By providing an end-to-end view of signaling data in a hybrid network, the NgN Analysis System enables service providers to quickly and accurately isolate and resolve call quality and failure issues, thereby enhancing both service quality and revenue return."
