Brooktrout's SnowShore Media Server Supports H.263 Video Compression
10/25/2004 - Brooktrout Technology, Inc., a leading supplier of media processing and call control products, announced that its SnowShore Media Server now supports the H.263 video compression standard for video messaging and video portal applications. TMN, Portugal’s largest mobile operator, has recently deployed the SnowShore Media Server as part of their new 3G Videomail service with Openwave. The system allows TMN’s 3G subscribers to view and purchase video content as well as send, receive, store and manage voice and video messages.
Recent industry reports show that the video messaging market is poised for rapid growth over the next several years. “With support for new video features and our experience in real world deployments, Brooktrout’s SnowShore Media Server is an excellent choice for service providers looking for IP-based network components, particularly for 3G wireless and broadband messaging,” said Brooktrout’s President, Eric Giler.

- an optional PCI hardware acceleration card that supports up to 200 sessions of G.726 compression/decompression
- new system management features including SNMP v3 support, and improved reporting and enhanced system logging
- performance enhancements, including 300 session capacity per server with G.711,per server enabling multiple servers to be clustered to meet high-density requirements
- the ability to store prompts locally using HTTP cache to reduce system loading and latency
