Kontron Introduces CVX-Server Rugged, Compact Server for OEMs

10/21/2004 - The Mobile Computing Division of Kontron America (formerly Kontron Mobile Computing, Inc.) announced the CVX-Server – a rugged, compact server designed to support a variety of OEM systems and applications, from embedded data acquisition and control to mobile in-vehicle testing, data communications and remote, embedded video capture.

Meeting Mil-Std 810F ratings for shock, vibration, and humidity, the CVX-Server features a solid, rugged, unitized aluminum construction to protect internal subsystems. Operating temperature from -15 ºC up to 60 ºC is made possible by the CVX-Server’s fanless cooling system. A heated hard drive upgrade is also available for expanded operating temperature specifications to -25 ºC on cold start and –40 ºC operating. The CVX-Server also offers impressive expansion capabilities with interfaces including IEEE 1394, USB 2.0, and a compact flash slot. An open mini PCI slot for integrated 802.11g and a 5.8" length PCI slot give an OEM the ability to convert an MDT (Mobile Data Terminal) or in-vehicle embedded system into a mobile Digital Video Recorder (DVR) surveillance system for homeland security programs.

Key CVX-Server specifications include:

  • Expansion capabilities for future applications with two open Card Bus Slots, CF Slot, MiniPCI Slot, 2nd IDE channel for integrated optical drive or Disk-On-Chip and 5.8" length PCI slot.
  • Third party certified to Mil-Std 810F for shock, humidity and vibration.
  • Impressive I/O features with three RS-232 ports, four USB 2.0 ports, one IEEE 1394 port, one speaker port, 10/100 Ethernet port, one LVDS port, one RGB port, 6.5VDC to 30VDC power input port and a smart battery UPS port.
  • 1.7GHz Intel Mobile Pentium ® M 735 Processor is the fastest to be used to date in a Kontron Mobile Computing data server.
  • Ample RAM and removable storage with a 40GB removable hard drive (expandable to 80GB), 512MB of DRAM (upgradeable to 1GB) with 64MB of video DRAM.
  • Options for external battery backup systems, integrated optical drives and custom 1-4 channel DVR or video capture options via open PCI card slot.
  • Operating system support for Windows 2000 Professional and XP Pro and Linux 9 Kernel 2.6.
