10/20/2004 - StarGen announced that it has achieved a major business milestone by shipping 250,000 StarFabric ports into 75 product designs worldwide. The company also announced the immediate availability of the StarFabric Software Development Kit (SDK) and an industrial temperature range version of the SG2010 StarFabric to PCI Bridge chip.
With its focus on high-performance, low-cost PCI-expansion capabilities and advanced fabric interconnect features, StarFabric has been embraced in a variety of embedded markets, including semiconductor test equipment, video/imaging equipment, military electronics, and manufacturing automation equipment. Premier companies such as SeaChange International, Advantest Corporation, Dy4, Aurora, BAE Systems, Jupiter Systems and others have designed StarFabric technology into their products, eliminating I/O bottlenecks and increasing system performance by:
“We are very pleased with the momentum StarGen is enjoying as customers move to StarFabric,” said Tim Miller, CEO of StarGen. “Our success in providing StarFabric solutions to demanding interconnect design problems will be a huge advantage as we introduce Advanced Switching Interconnect solutions starting in 2005.”
Software Development Kit
The new StarFabric SDK enables the use of advanced event features such as link-up, link-down events, taking advantage of the high availability features of StarFabric. Customers can use the SDK to make peer-to-peer connections that can map multi- terabytes of memory resources. Customers can also designate different classes of service to improve system performance, such as multicast, and isochronous classes of service.
The SDK is a complete solution that includes software libraries, fabric analysis tools and drivers for Windows XP, Linux and Wind River VxWorks. It provides complete customization of StarFabric’s non-transparent bridging and Quality of Service features.
“StarGen has led the industry in filling a much needed void for high-performance, low-cost PCI-expansion, particularly as PCI reaches the limits of its capabilities,” said Eric Gulliksen of Venture Development Corporation. “The availability of the new Software Development Kit demonstrates StarGen’s continued investment in StarFabric, enabling companies to design higher performance switched PCI products for a wide range of applications.”
The StarFabric SDK (p/n SGSDK01-A0) is available immediately from StarGen and is priced at $2,995.
Industrial Temperature Range Support
StarGen is also announcing the availability of the SG2010-A4, a PCI to StarFabric bridge chip rated across the industrial temperature range. Following the challenging customer requirements of major embedded and military systems companies, the SG2010-A4 delivers StarFabric technology in extended temperature applications. It is rated to operate across the industrial temperature range of -40 to 85 degrees Celsius and is available immediately.
StarGen, a semiconductor company with design wins across a broad spectrum of markets including storage, communications, high performance imaging, automated test, and video distribution, has deployed 250,000 StarFabric ports into more than 75 product designs worldwide. StarGen (www.stargen.com) has headquarters in Marlborough, MA.
The Advanced Switching Interconnect product line, slated for delivery in early 2005, will feature a family of bridges and switches based on the emerging PCI Express and Advanced Switching Interconnect industry standards. StarGen is a sponsor of the Advanced Switching Interconnect Special Interest Group (ASI SIG) and chairs the Marketing Work Group and key Technical Work Groups.
PCI Express is a trademark of PCI-SIG. StarGen and StarFabric are trademarks of StarGen.
