Deutsche Post Selects IONA's Artix Extensible Enterprise Service Bus

10/19/2004 - IONA® Technologies (NASDAQ: IONA), a world leader in high-performance integration solutions for mission-critical IT environments, announced that Deutsche Post AG has selected ArtixTM, IONA's extensible enterprise service bus (ESB), as the foundation for the German postal and logistics company's major IT integration projects. Artix is a key component in Deutsche Post's Service Oriented Platform infrastructure, a next generation platform that will allow seamless and efficient Web and enterprise services-based integration of the IT systems supporting the global operations of the Deutsche Post Group, including DHL.

Deutsche Post's Service Oriented Platform (SOP) Group, working jointly with IONA has already built Artix into the organization's Service BackBone, the latest evolution of Deutsche Post's five-year old service-oriented architecture program. Chief among the SOP's reasons to give Artix a prominent role in its new architecture is the technology's unmatched extensibility. With Artix, Deutsche Post has a single, multi-protocol, multi-platform environment capable of service enabling new and existing IT systems, allowing them to be efficiently incorporated into new business applications and processes. Artix also delivers new economics for integration by enabling Deutsche Post to incrementally adopt and rollout a service-oriented solution while continuing to support the mission-critical systems already in place. In addition, adoption of an extensible ESB better facilitates the integration of new IT systems and environments that may result from Deutsche Post's possible merger and acquisition activities.

Further, Deutsche Post can accomplish this without adding the cost and complexity of new hardware resources or changing the underlying code of the applications running the business.
