10/19/2004 - Performance Technologies (Nasdaq NM: PTIX), a leading developer of integrated platforms, components and software solutions for the communications, military and commercial markets, introduced the SEGwayTM 1200 Link Replacement device, the successor to our popular SEGway 1100 solution.
The SEGway 1200 reliably transports circuit-switched SS7 messages over managed, shared-use IP networks rather than over expensive, dedicated SS7 links. It supports four or sixteen signaling links and is designed for NEBS certification -- an important consideration for many North American carriers. This introduction rounds out Performance Technologies' Link Replacement device products, offering an expanded selection to better fit customers' requirements.
"Our eight link SEGway 1100 Link Replacement device has been very popular among carriers as it has helped them save significantly on their expensive SS7 transport costs," said Deb Brunner-Walker, product manager for Performance Technologies. "Now with the 1200, we are offering even better cost savings by giving our customers the option of deploying a smaller scaled device at the network edge and a larger capacity system at the core of the network."
The device utilizes the Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) to ensure the same high level of reliability when transporting messages over IP as with traditional SS7 circuits. One of the device's unique features is its ability to reliably transport SS7 signaling over networks that may not conform to stringent signaling delay requirements. In a delay prone environment such as a satellite network, the SEGway Link Replacement device stands apart from competitor solutions.
The SEGway Link Replacement devices work with a customer's existing billing and SS7 monitoring equipment. This makes it an ideal solution for carriers wanting to start migration of their SS7 signaling to an IP-based network today, without the expense of replacing existing billing and SS7 monitoring systems.
