Azlan Distributes PowerDsine's Power over Ethernet Products in Europe

10/15/2004 - PowerDsineTM a pioneer in Power over Ethernet (PoE) solutions, has appointed Azlan to distribute its Power over Ethernet midspan hubs in the Europe, Middle East and Africa regions (“EMEA”) PowerDsine’s midspans allow the delivery of power over standard Ethernet cabling to Wireless hubs, IP Phones and CCTV cameras without the cost and disruption of upgrading the entire data networking infrastructure.

PowerDsine is a leading vendor of products that enable the deployment of PoE technology. PowerDsine is also a founding member of the IEEE 802.3af task force that is responsible for the recently adopted PoE standard. The company supplies integrated circuits, modules and systems that facilitate the deployment of PoE. Its largest customers in 2003 included 3Com, Avaya and Nortel Networks. PowerDsine’s midspan solutions that will be distributed in the EMEA region by Azlan, are designed to PoE- enable network devices such as IP phones, wireless hubs and IP Security equipment such as CCTV cameras, without upgrading the existing LAN infrastructure.

According to David Palmer-Stevens, director of channel development Europe, “Azlan’s appointment reflects the distributor’s strong reputation in the VoIP market place. Azlan also distributes a broad range of infrastructure data networking products which are complementary to PowerDsine’s midspans and they have a particularly strong presence in Southern Europe where we are keen to build additional momentum for our products.”

Alan Reeve, European business development manager at Azlan comments, “We are excited about having the opportunity to offer Power over Ethernet products because we believe that PoE technology will help to drive the growth of Voice over IP installations. PowerDsine is recognised as a pioneer in this market and we are delighted to have signed an agreement with the company and are very excited about the prospects it offers our resellers.”

About Power over Ethernet Technology
PoE is a technology for wired Ethernet, the most widely installed local area network technology in use today. PoE allows the electrical power necessary for the operation of each device, to be carried by data cables rather than by separate power cords. It minimizes the number of wires that must be used in order to install the network, resulting in lower cost, less downtime, easier maintenance and greater installation flexibility.

PoE also potentially reduces the cost of installing end devices such as IP phones, network security cameras and wireless LAN access points. Because the network switches also can deliver power through the standard Ethernet infrastructure, the need to connect each end terminal to separate electrical wires and install additional AC power outlets is eliminated. Also, used together with a single central back-up power- supply, PoE can provide customers with uninterruptible power for critical applications such as IP (Internet protocol) phones, security cameras, entry loggers and other powered data terminals.
