10/15/2004 - Dan Hillman, vice president of low-power SoC engineering for Virtual Silicon Technology, Inc., was honored at both the International Cadence Usergroup (ICU) and the Boston Synopsys User Group (SNUG) meetings in September for paper presentations. Hillman was a co-winner of the Most Valuable Paper award, based on attendee polling at ICU and jointly received the bronze medal for the SNUG Boston Best Paper Award, for a paper co-authored with John Wei of Tensilica.
“The awards received for these papers by the designers attending these conferences demonstrates just how effective the Mobilize power management IP solution is in solving the problem of power in nanometer SoC.”, said Hillman. “It is a real pleasure to see the positive reception to Mobilize by leaders in the SoC design community.”
In Boston, Hillman and Wei presented “Implementing Power Management IP for Dynamic and Static Power Reduction in 32-bit Microprocessors using the Galaxy Design Platform at 130nm”, in which a 53% reduction in the dynamic power of the Tensilica 32-bit Xtensa microprocessor was achieved, with no sacrifice in performance by using Virtual Silicon’s Mobilize Power Management IP in conjunction with Synopsys’ Galaxy(R) Design Platform.
Hillman's ICU paper, presented in Santa Clara, California on September 14, 2004 was titled, “Implementing Power Management IP for Dynamic & Static Power Reduction Using SoC Encounter(TM) at 130 nm“, and addressed power consumption at 130 nm and 90 nm and the results of dynamic and static power reduction achieved using Virtual Silicon’s Power Management IP in the Cadence SoC Encounter environment.
