10/15/2004 - Magma® Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of chip design solutions, announced that DongbuAnam Semiconductor (001830.SE) has standardized on SiliconSmart® CR and SiliconSmart IO characterization and modeling technology. The software technology will be used for timing and low-power characterization of their next-generation nanometer libraries. The SiliconSmart technology enables developers targeting designs to be manufactured in DongbuAnam’s foundries to reach DongbuAnam’s timing and low-power objectives faster and with greater accuracy through the use of accurate and consistent libraries throughout the entire design process.

DongbuAnam Semiconductor’s library group recognized that providing IP that correlates precisely to the current foundry process was critical to their internal and its customers design teams’ ability to meet specific power and performance objectives. To ensure that level of correlation requires the timely characterization of the libraries using up-to-date process models and a characterization and modeling solution that accurately accounts for electrical effects such as increased cell delays due to greater cross-coupling and higher power consumption due to larger leakage currents. DongbuAnam recognized that, further complicating the issues surrounding elevated leakage currents, leakage power is extremely state-dependent in standard-cell designs and that power consumption can vary by orders of magnitude depending on state.
DongbuAnam required a characterization and modeling solution that could accurately represent the timing and power values in silicon. Supporting customers that utilize tool flows from multiple vendors also required the ability to produce high-quality models for a wide variety of flows.

As part of its evaluation of the SiliconSmart technology, DongbuAnam developed test structures designed to verify the accurate representation of timing and power measurements. The results showed the SiliconSmart-generated models correlated to within 2 percent of SPICE and 5 percent of silicon for timing across all test circuits; and correlated to silicon for power across all test circuits. Due to the precise correlation of the models and support for advanced design flows from Cadence® Design Systems, Magma and Synopsys®, DongbuAnam standardized on the SiliconSmart characterization and modeling technology from the Silicon Correlation Division of Magma.
