10/15/2004 - Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq:PTEC) announced that Supercom, one of the top PC distributors in Canada, will make selected Phoenix Technologies cMETM and FirstWare applications available to its base of over 7,000+ computer resellers. Effective immediately, Supercom will offer Phoenix Technologies Recover ProTM, Console PlatformTM, VaultTM and FirstWare AssistantTM. These applications deliver unprecedented security, recovery and management capabilities to businesses and end-users.
This new agreement demonstrates continued momentum for the rapid adoption of Phoenix Technologies OS-independent software products by system builders and the PC enhancement aftermarket in North America and around the world. This relationship also provides increased distribution strength in the Canadian market for Phoenix Technologies.
Supercom is an established Canadian company that specializes in the distribution of computer products and consumer electronic products as well as the production of personal computers. Supercom selected Phoenix Technologies applications because the Phoenix FirstWare products deliver advanced protection and on-board system recovery to mobile workers and businesses.
"The Phoenix Technologies FirstWare applications are innovative, fast and reliable ways for our resellers to provide end users and businesses with products that include built-in security protection for their critical data and applications. Phoenix Technologies FirstWare applications also support automatic backup of PC operating system, applications, user settings and data files, and offer easy recovery in the event of an attack, thus reducing IT and reseller support costs," said Allan Mui, Supercom Security Solutions Product Manager. "Phoenix Technologies' FirstWare applications add value to our product portfolio and significantly increase user confidence in system security and recovery through their ease of use and innovative protection technologies. The Phoenix FirstWare applications will create tremendous business opportunities for resellers of notebook and desktop PCs, applications and enhancement services."
About Phoenix Technologies FirstWare Applications
Phoenix Technologies FirstWare applications reduce manufacturing and support costs for OEMs, white box manufacturers, system builders, resellers and distributors while providing more user value. This added value is delivered through "instant-on" applications that diagnose, connect and recover systems without boot disks or recovery CDs if the OS will not boot. These applications include Phoenix Technologies FirstWare Recover, Recover Pro, Recover Pro Network, Vault, Connect, Check and FirstWare Assistant, which adds PDA functionality to laptops by providing instant pre-OS access to Microsoft Outlook email and PIM data.
Viruses, worms and other infections continue to barrage PCs, yet 60% of all data still reside on the individual PC as opposed to the network. Also, mobile users and small and medium businesses typically don't have access to a dedicated IT staff, and are most susceptible to security breaches and infection.
Phoenix Technologies Recover Pro is the only pre-OS mode software bundle that gives PC users protection and recovery from viruses and intrusions. When users use Phoenix Technologies Recover Pro, they add the capability to perform regular, automated backups to incremental restore points. Restore points can be set monthly, weekly, daily or hourly. Users can automatically back up their PC operating system, applications, user settings and data files and easily recover them in the event of an attack. There is no need to resort to IT support, training or an Internet connection for recovery assistance.
Phoenix Technologies FirstWare Recover Pro is the award-winning Phoenix Core Managed Environment (cMETM) certified application that allows PC and notebook users to restore their PCs to working order quickly and easily. By incorporating Phoenix Technologies' innovations into new PCs, users can restore entire approved corporate images, uncorrupted versions of user data and even systems applications to original factory settings -- without using a boot disk, network connection or recovery CD.
Phoenix Technologies cME Console Platform includes innovative pre-configured functions that help system builders and PC OEMs differentiate their product offerings and generate new revenue streams through the support of pre-OS applications, the new must-have capability in this age of continuous virus and malware attacks.
"As a leading Canadian PC hardware distributor, Supercom understands that system security and recovery need to be built into the core of PCs and devices. Phoenix creates partnerships with industry leaders such as Supercom to deliver secure software applications that improve the user experience, increase productivity and reduce return and support costs," said Michael D. Goldgof, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Corporate Marketing and Products Division for Phoenix Technologies. "Supercom is establishing a stronger, more differentiated market position and can generate new revenue streams with our innovative FirstWare applications, which provide secure, always-available backup and recovery capabilities."
