10/15/2004 - Concurrent Computer Corporation (NASDAQ: CCUR), a worldwide leader of on-demand technology that is shaping the future of television, announced that C&M (Cable and Multimedia) Co., Ltd., Korea’s fastest growing and largest hybrid fiber coax (HFC) cable multiple system operator (MSO), has selected Concurrent’s MediaHawk® On-Demand Platform for Korea’s first Real Video-On-Demand (RVOD) field trial and for the launch of commercial and advanced on-demand services. Currently in field trial, C&M will launch commercial services to C&M’s over 1.3 million subscribers before the end of calendar year 2004.
C&M’s subscribers in the greater Seoul area are among Korea’s most desirable premium subscribers and have enthusiastically embraced advanced television services such as home shopping services. C&M represents Korea’s largest HFC cable MSO in terms of average revenue per subscriber and represents Korea’s fastest growing HFC cable MSO in terms of both revenue and number of subscribers. With more than 1.3 million subscribers, C&M’s commercial deployment is larger than the largest North American commercial deployment by a single cable operator in a single market. Korea represents a new market opportunity for on-demand services with the development and expansion of digital television technology, one of the primary initiatives backed by the Korean government.
