10/14/2004 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced a solution that enables service providers to test the availability and performance of push e-mail services delivered over wireless networks. This real-time service assurance solution improves customer satisfaction by ensuring high quality of service.
Push e-mail services, such as those offered by BlackBerry, make it easy for mobile professionals to receive and send e-mail when they are away from their desktop systems. E-mail is automatically pushed to the subscriber's wireless handheld device, where it remains until the subscriber has read it.
As an enhancement to Wireless QoS Manager and its inherent pull e-mail capabilities, Agilent's push e-mail test solution monitors push e-mail performance from the edge of the service provider's network to the client's handset and from the client's mail server to the handset (these portions of the transit are the responsibility of wireless service providers). This testing capability is one of the keys to delivering consistently high-quality service to subscribers and identifying performance problems outside the service provider's control.
"The businesses that depend on push services live in a fast-paced world," said Giorgio Dina, Agilent OSS vice president and general manager. "They have high expectations for service availability and quality. If a provider can't meet their quality of service requirements consistently, they will take their business elsewhere. This makes QoS management essential for service providers who cater to the needs of these business subscribers."
