10/14/2004 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced the availability of its advanced quality of service (QoS) test solution for carriers providing wireless services over networks based on CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) technology. The active-call test system enables service providers to ensure optimal network and service performance for improved customer satisfaction.
With support for CDMA networks now incorporated in the proven Agilent OSS Wireless QoS Manager solution, providers are able to test service quality for CDMA/1xRTT wireless services, including such key metrics as service availability, round-trip send/receive times and voice quality mean opinion scores (MOSs) on the first try. Agilent's solution performs active test calls on an extensive range of wireless services, including video telephony, multimedia streaming, mobile instant messaging, unified messaging, voice, SMS (short message service), e-mail, Web and MMS (multimedia message services), WAP and i-Mode.
The Wireless QoS Manager solution has been deployed globally by major carriers offering services over GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) and UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunications System) networks. The Agilent solution can now test interoperability issues between the CDMA networks that are common in North America and Asia, in addition to the GSM and UMTS networks that are common in Europe. This capability can help carriers deliver a higher-quality experience to subscribers who roam into different regions.
"Carriers delivering services over CDMA networks now have access to the same rich set of testing capabilities that Agilent provides for GSM and UMTS networks," said Giorgio Dina, Agilent OSS vice president and general manager. "The capabilities in Wireless QoS Manager are particularly critical for carriers who are rolling out new advanced wireless services. Customer loyalty is on the line, so carriers need to be sure that they can deliver a consistent, high-quality wireless experience -- from day one. With Wireless QoS Manager, carriers can test services before customers put them to use, and then on a regular basis."
