10/13/2004 - IDTTM (Integrated Device Technology, Inc.; Nasdaq: IDTI), a leading communications IC company and the leading provider of network search engines (NSEs), and Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MSPD), a leading supplier of semiconductor solutions for network infrastructure applications, announced a collaboration to deliver high-performance, integrated packet-processing solutions comprised of the IDT NSEs and Mindspeed Traffic Stream Processors (TSPs) for next-generation broadband access network equipment.
Mindspeed’s M27480 and M27481 third-generation Traffic Stream Processor (TSP3) devices interface seamlessly with the IDT 75N43102 NSE. This access network processing solution offers designers reduced costs and board space due to chip reduction, improved performance and a less complex design, which leads to improved time-to-market and reliability. The IDT 75N43102 NSE significantly extends the Ethernet, ATM, MPLS, and IP classification capabilities of Mindspeed’s TSP3 network processors at a power and price point suitable for access and enterprise designs.
To further simplify the design process, the IDT NSE technology has been fully integrated into all aspects of Mindspeed’s TSP3 development environment. Mindspeed’s board developer’s kit (BDK) includes a virtual test-bench with IDT NSE-encrypted models to enable simulation of hardware prior to layout. A source developer’s kit (SDK) is also available, allowing firmware development and simulation using IDT NSEs. A TSP3 evaluation module (EVM) demonstrating the joint solution will be displayed at the IDT booth #411 at the Network Systems Design Conference, October 19-21 in San Jose, Calif.
“We are pleased to work with IDT to deliver a high-performance, integrated solution for our mutual customers,” said Neil Cohen, product manager for Mindspeed’s broadband internetworking systems business unit. “IDT is a leading provider of NSE solutions for Ethernet switches, voice and wireless gateways, and remote DSLAMs, and our customers are very interested in our offering a seamless interface from our TSP3 traffic managers to the IDT NSE.”
“Through complementary development with market leaders like Mindspeed, IDT is applying its proven technology expertise to solve real-world design challenges and provide comprehensive system solutions for the communications marketplace,” said Dave Cech, director of marketing for the IDT IP co-processor division. “Mindspeed is a recognized leader for ATM and programmable traffic management products, and today’s announcement solidifies IDT as the NSE vendor of choice for leaders of packet-processing silicon solutions.”
Mindspeed’s M27480 and M27481 devices are based on the third-generation traffic stream processor architecture and provide a variety of programmable traffic-management and protocol-internetworking functions for DSLAMs, PONs, enterprise routers and media gateways. Unlike fixed-function traffic management devices, new features can be introduced with software upgrades, “future proofing” TSP3-based hardware deployed in networks for evolving requirements. The IDT NSE adds increased classification capabilities — up to 64K traffic streams — when coupled with the Mindspeed M27481 TSP3 device.
The IDT 75N43102 NSE is the industry’s lowest-cost NSE in 32Kx72 (2-Mbit) configurations. The device operates at 62.5 million searches per second (MSPS) and is optimized for cost-sensitive systems that need to achieve increased packet-processing rates to facilitate additional services such as Quality of Service (QoS) support, IP security, classification, traffic management, ATM forwarding and address classification.
The IDT 75N43102 NSE and Mindspeed M27480 TSP3 devices are sampling now. The Mindspeed M27481 TSP3 device will be sampling in late October 2004. The two companies plan to extend their collaboration to interface the IDT NSEs to the Mindspeed M27482 and M27483 TSP3 processors.
