10/11/2004 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced that QLogic Corp. (NASDAQ: QLGC), a leader in designing and developing storage area networking (SAN) infrastructure components, has selected the Tektronix Communications Signal Analyzer (CSA8200) system to drive their development of 4 Gigabit per second (4G) Fibre Channel products and to support future development projects. The 4G Fibre Channel products will boost the performance of storage-area networks for QLogic's customers.
QLogic Corporation designs and develops storage networking infrastructure components sold to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), distributors, resellers and system integrators. It serves customers with solutions based on various storage area network (SAN) technologies, including small computer systems interface (SCSI), Internet SCSI (iSCSI) and Fibre Channel. 4G Fibre Channel is a specification for switched fabric networks that connect storage arrays to servers in the corporate data center and represents the next step in fibre channel evolution. Using Fibre Channel operating at 4G to connect disk drives to drive controllers allows increased speed while maintaining compatibility with existing gear.
Demand for higher data bandwidth, compatibility with installed hardware and comparable cost is leading to rapid and widespread adoption of 4G Fibre Channel. QLogic is developing 4G Fibre Channel components, hard disk controller (HDC) chips, host bus adapters (HBA), and fabric switches. To support 4G Fibre Channel product development as well as other strategic development activities, the Circuits & Integration (C and I) Group within QLogic has selected a Tektronix suite of products consisting of CSA8200 sampling oscilloscope, 80C12 multi-rate broad wavelength optical sampling module and the 80A05 electrical clock recovery module.
"4G Fibre Channel is a critical business area for QLogic, and we have been looking for a test solution to support our current product development needs as well as supporting our needs for future product innovation," said Dean Wallace, QLogic C and I Director of engineering, and the Vice-Chair of the Electrical Working Group and chair of FCSM of the T11 Fibre Channel committee. "We evaluated several competitive offerings and determined that the Tektronix CSA8200 best augmented our existing characterization tool suite and offers a flexible solution to support our development and testing of 4G Fibre Channel components."
"We're honored to be working with an industry leader like QLogic to support their business needs," said John Taggart, General Manager, Electro Optical Product Line, Tektronix. "They needed very flexible instrumentation with superior jitter characteristics to support their product development and by using the Tektronix test-suite, QLogic will benefit from unique broad range clock recovery with 4G fibre channel support, greater mask-test sensitivity and the lowest noise of any measurement system available."
Since 1993, over 50 million QLogic products have shipped inside servers, workstations, RAID subsystems, tape libraries, disk and tape drives. These products were delivered to small, medium and large enterprises around the world. Powering solutions from leading companies like Cisco, Dell, EMC, Fujitsu, Hitachi, HP, IBM, NEC, Network Appliance, Quantum, StorageTek and Sun Microsystems, the broad line of QLogic controller chips, host bus adapters, network switches and management software move data from storage devices through the network fabric to servers. A member of the S&P 500 and NASDAQ 100, QLogic was recently named to Fortune´s 100 Fastest Growing Companies list for the fourth consecutive year and to Forbes´ Best 200 Small Companies for the fifth consecutive year. In addition, QLogic was named to BusinessWeek´s list of 100 Hot Growth Companies for 2003. For more information visit www.qlogic.com.
