Network Computing Magazine Selects Lantronix for Editor's Choice Award

10/8/2004 - Lantronix®, Inc. (Nasdaq: LTRX) is pleased to announce it is the recipient of CMP Media LLC’s Network Computing Editor’s Choice Award for its SecureLinx SLC16 console manager. The award recognizes product excellence in storage, networking and server technology.

A console manager provides network administrators secure consolidated management access to virtually every piece of equipment in the data center using the console or emergency management port built into most servers and networking equipment. Console management provides a simple and flexible solution for secure local or remote management, and is widely deployed as a critical management component in many small to large data centers.

Lantronix and several other console management solutions were evaluated in a mixed server, switch, firewall and router test network in Network Computing’s Labs, with the SecureLinx SLC16 scoring the highest marks. It was described as having “the best combination of flexibility, ease of use and internal capabilities.”

To qualify, each console server tested had to have at least 16-ports and a method-user authentication and traffic encryption. The SecureLinx SLC16 was praised as offering “the tastiest mix of features, ease of use, and price.” It was specifically commended in several key feature areas, including recognition as “the only appliance to allow for front-panel configuration, a key consideration for some remote or wiring-closet installations,” and having “the most complete internal administration and reporting capabilities.” The review also highlighted the optional AC or DC redundant power supplies (available on all SLC models, from 8 to 48 ports), easy-to-configure connection and routing parameters, and was described as “a breeze to adapt the SLC16’s behavior to fit our specific security requirements.”

“We are honored and delighted to be awarded Network Computing Editor’s Choice Award for our SecureLinx SLC16 Console Manager,” said Chris Humphrey, vice president of marketing for Lantronix. “This award reflects Lantronix's long heritage in providing best- in-class data center management solutions to IT professionals and service providers.”

About Lantronix SecureLinx family of Secure Console Servers
The SecureLinx family of remote management products brings ease-of- use and ease-of- installation features with all models offering a variety of power options, including single- AC, dual-AC, single-DC or dual-DC power. Management access is provided either through dual-redundant in-band connections (e.g., dual Ethernet management ports) or out-of-band management (i.e., through a dial-up modem) for always-available monitoring, maintenance or troubleshooting of servers and infrastructure equipment.

SecureLinx SLC Console Managers and SLK Remote KVMTM solutions both provide SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) support and e-mail event notification, remote firmware and configuration uploading, and a similar GUI (graphical user interface) design that provides a common “look and feel” and navigation. The SLC front panel features dual 32-bit PC card slots for expansion, an LCD display, a keypad for easy deployment (e.g., quickly setting the IP address), and unique “Detector” software that discovers all SLCs and SLKs on a network and can automatically assign IP addresses. All models offer robust security capabilities such as authentication, encryption and firewall features that protect end users’ resources, while still providing the flexibility of remo te access.
