10/8/2004 - Enea Embedded Technology, a leading provider of embedded software for the communications market, announced an alliance with Yokogawa Digital Computer Corporation (YDC) for the Japanese market. Within this alliance, YDC will provide a hardware and software development solution based on the OSE RTOS and YDC’s A-platTM platform to address the emerging market segment of ubiquitous computing. This solution will be used to build a broad range of everyday electronic devices, such as mobile phones or personal digital assistants.
The integration of technologies from Enea and YDC will provide developers with a complete hardware and software solution that addresses technical issues that are crucial in ubiquitous computing, such as power consumption and connectivity. The solution includes the A-plat i.MX1-(ARM920T core)-based standard evaluation platform and the highly reliable and robust OSE real-time operating system (RTOS) and development environment. The i.MX1 platform specifically addresses the needs of the personal, portable product market, offering intelligent integrated peripherals, an advanced processor core, and power management capabilities. The OSE RTOS provides a high-end RTOS for A-Plat and adds high-reliability features to the platform. Technical features such as MMU, error detection, error monitoring, and power management will still be able to run while maintaining a small memory footprint. Development tools include a compiler, a source-level debugger and a system-level debugger.
With this solution, Enea and YDC are addressing the emerging market of ubiquitous computing. Ubiquitous computing is the term used to describe the “Third Wave” of computing: This trend is making computers available everywhere throughout the physical environment while rendering them effectively invisible to the user. “The alliance between YDC and Enea is a natural fit when it comes to the challenges of developing highly complex devices for ubiquitous computing,” said Chiharu Takei, senior director at YDC’s Development Tools business unit. “We are looking forward to intensifying the partnership with Enea to further improve our product offerings in response to our customers’ demands.”
