10/6/2004 - Accelerated Technology(r), a Mentor Graphics division (Nasdaq: MENT), announced availability of the Nucleus(r) DHCP Relay Agent software for developers desiring to maximize the functionality and use of their routers. In demand by users of the Nucleus NET networking package, the Nucleus DHCP Relay Agent software targets developers building networking applications such as routers that forward data packets from one local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN) to another.
A Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) Relay Agent is used to connect DHCP Servers, a server in the network, or a service within a server that assigns IP addresses in separate segments or joined subnets. For example, a large network may be divided into multiple subnets. A developer can put a DHCP server on each subnet making it harder to configure and more expensive. Instead, a developer can utilize one DHCP server and connect all the subnets together with DHCP relays, which takes care of relaying DHCP packets between the separate subnets. The result is a network that is easier to setup and configure with lower maintenance costs.
"Implementing the Nucleus DHCP Relay Agent software allows our customers to make routers for use in large networks that have few DHCP servers but many network subnets. The benefit of easy configuration and lower costs is then realized by the end users of these devices," said Robert Day, director of marketing, Embedded Systems Division, Mentor Graphics.
Pricing and Availability
The Nucleus embedded software is sold in source code format and without royalty fees. Available now and sold as an add-on product to the Nucleus NET protocol stack, licenses for the Nucleus DHCP Relay Agent software begin at $2,495.
