10/1/2004 - Zycko, the leading global distributor of networked storage solutions, announced it has signed a major strategic partnership with Dot Hill Systems Corp. The partnership will allow Zycko to distribute Dot Hill’s range of high-specification yet cost-effective storage solutions, which are specifically tailored to the needs of the enterprise market at a price affordable for SMBs.
The agreement furthers Zycko’s strategy of making high specification Fibre Channel storage solutions affordable to the SMB market. Usually reserved for larger enterprises, Fibre Channel SAN solutions have traditionally been too expensive for smaller and mid-size enterprises.
Sam Samuel, Director of Storage Strategy at Zycko, comments, “Zycko’s approach offers companies the functionality of the enterprise at a price that is within reach of an SMB’s budget.
“In order to move the networked storage industry forward, we believe that the functionality normally associated with the Enterprise needs to be available at more realistic prices. Without this, the industry will be unable to deliver networked storage solutions to the volume market. Through its partnership with Dot Hill, Zycko aims to address this and open up the market to a wider audience, revolutionising the approach to data storage provisioning, not only for SMBs but also acting as a ‘wake up call’ for the industry at large.”
Dot Hill is a leader in the innovative design and delivery of data storage solutions worldwide. With a product set which includes the SANnet® II family of storage systems, RIO XtremeTM storage solutions, RIVATM storage solutions, SANscape® storage management software, and SANpath® storage networking software, Dot Hill’s partnership makes for an ideal extension of Zycko’s existing product portfolio.
An innovation specifically targeted at the SMB market is Dot Hill’s Switchless SANTM solution. The solution, called the SANnet II SATA Special Edition, will allow users to consolidate and migrate storage for up to 12 servers to a SAN, without having to invest in the high cost and complexity of Fibre Channel switches. An inexpensive, compact, and expandable array designed to meet the needs of near-line storage, data reference, and data archival applications, the new SANnet II SATA Special Edition offers the market a SAN solution for much less than the traditional cost of direct attached storage.
Samuel continues, “We are delighted to partner with Dot Hill to bring this new, Switchless SAN technology to the SMB market. Able to work with most legacy technology, it is aimed firmly at the SMB sector which has, until now, been unable to invest in high-end, serviceable storage solutions due to prohibitive costs. Gartner’s recent prediction that SMBs will be a major driving force in storage purchasing reinforces our conviction that the SMB market needs a range of high-end, enterprise-class features and functionality at a cost-effective price, in order to really maximize their storage investments.”
David Thompson, Sales Executive at Dot Hill, comments, “We look forward to working with Zycko to introduce its reseller customers to Dot Hill’s storage solutions. Zycko’s expertise in the storage market, combined with Dot Hill’s innovative design and delivery of highly reliable storage networking solutions, is an excellent combination.”
