1/29/2004 - Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADPT), a global leader in storage solutions, introduced two storage systems that give organizations a cost-effective way to deploy network storage for e-mail, database, disaster recovery, consolidation backup and other storage applications.
The increasing digitization of data by organizations of all sizes and regulations such as Sarbanes-Oxley that mandate long-term records retention are spawning massive amounts of reference data - highly valuable but infrequently accessed information such as email, check images, and streaming video and audio - driving demand for network storage that is as simple to install and use as direct-attached storage. At the same time, businesses are demanding affordable alternatives to traditional networked storage to meet their growing capacity, data protection and performance requirements for a broad range of storage applications.
The new Adaptec iSA1500 Storage Array leverages standard IP networks, existing network management skill sets and low-cost Serial ATA storage to provide organizations with networked reference-data storage that is easy and cost-effective to install and manage. The iSCSI-to-Serial ATA RAID subsystem combines high levels of data protection and capacity allocation flexibility with other advanced storage area network (SAN) capabilities and an easy-to-use management tool to reduce total cost of ownership. The Adaptec iSA1500 also provides high-capacity storage for direct-attached environments and an easy migration path to network storage.
"The Adaptec iSA1500 demonstrates Adaptec's strategy to deliver solutions that make it much easier and more cost-effective for organizations to deploy, expand and manage storage," said Ahmet Houssein, vice president and general manager of Adaptec's Storage Solutions Group. "Adaptec's comprehensive suite of direct-attached and networked solutions enables organizations to easily scale system performance, data protection and capacity to their expanding storage requirements and reduce related costs."
"Customers are demanding networked storage solutions that are cost-effective and easy to manage," said Brad Nisbet, senior research analyst at IDC. "By broadening its product family and offering integrated solutions that bring SAN capabilities to mid-tier companies, Adaptec is helping customers drive down the cost and complexity of managing expanding IT environments."
Adaptec iSA1500 Delivers Advanced SANs Capabilities to Sawtel Customers
Sawtel, a provider of satellite bandwidth capacity, wireless connectivity and storage solutions, needed an easy way to deploy and manage networked storage to meet the growing capacity needs of its target base of small and midsize businesses. The Hartford, Conn.-based company selected the Adaptec iSA1500 Storage Array and the Adaptec 7211, a leading iSCSI host bus adapter. The solutions provided a high-performance IP SAN that simplified the deployment for a broad range of network storage applications including backup, consolidation, archival, and remote mirroring and replication.
"The Adaptec iSA1500 delivers the advanced data protection, mirroring and management capabilities of a traditional storage area network solution, but at a much lower cost," said Eric O. Koffie-Asare, CTO of Sawtel. "The Adaptec iSA1500 dramatically reduces SAN deployment, storage and support costs for our customers by leveraging standard Ethernet infrastructure, Serial ATA storage and Adaptec's easy-to-use management tool."
The Adaptec iSA1500 - Making Networked Storage Easy and Affordable
The Adaptec iSA1500 Storage Array is a high-density (1U) system that provides one terabyte of storage capacity in four hot-swappable Serial ATA disk drives and supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5 and 10 for robust data protection. The array automates storage management to simplify installation, configuration and administration of IP SANs. Its advanced snapshot capability shortens backup windows to maximize system uptime. The Adaptec iSA1500 also makes it easier for businesses to meet their changing capacity needs by enabling them to allocate storage to applications and servers dynamically.
Adaptec FS4500 Brings Cost-Effective Storage to Fibre Channel SANs
Adaptec today also introduced high-performance Fibre Channel-to-Serial ATA RAID and JBOD storage arrays for midsize businesses. The Adaptec FS4500 is a highly scalable, high-availability subsystem that combines Fibre Channel scalability and performance with Serial ATA disk drives for reference data storage.
The Adaptec FS4100 Serial ATA disk drive enclosure lets customers easily scale to 24 terabytes of direct-attached or networked storage and provides a simple upgrade path to fully redundant RAID subsystem storage. The FS4100 also allows organizations to easily expand capacity of the FS4500 and third-party Fibre Channel RAID appliances.
Availability and Pricing
The Adaptec iSA1500, FS4500 and FS4100 storage arrays are now available through Adaptec's worldwide reseller and distribution channels. Manufacturers suggested retail pricing for the Adaptec iSA1500 is $10,000. MSRP for the Adaptec FS4500 and FS4100 is $14,299 and $9,599, respectively. Adaptec's End-to-End Solutions
Adaptec's networked storage products are part of the company's end-to-end solutions. The core of the solutions - ranging from ASICs, software and add-in cards for direct-attached storage and data protection to plug-and-play solutions for storage area networks - is a common hardware and software architecture that enables companies to easily scale data protection, system performance and capacity to their growing storage needs across direct-attached and networked storage. The family also features a single management console that allows customers to easily manage both types of storage to reduce storage management costs.
Adaptec Inc. (NASDAQ:ADPT) provides end-to-end storage solutions that reliably move, manage and protect critical data and digital content. Adaptec provides software and hardware solutions for storage connectivity and data protection, storage networking and networked storage subsystems to leading OEM and distribution channel partners. Adaptec solutions are in use by enterprises, ISPs, medium and small businesses and consumers worldwide. Adaptec is an S&P Small Cap 600 Index member.
