1/23/2004 - Sybase, Inc. (NYSE:SY) a leading enterprise infrastructure and mobile software company, announced that Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE), the company’s enterprise-class relational database management system (RDBMS), is being honored this week with Readers’ Choice and Editor’s Choice Awards by LinuxWorld Magazine and Open Source World Magazine.
“Sybase is particularly proud of both the LinuxWorld Magazine and Open Source World Magazine honors, as they represent the voice of real-world users that have recognized Sybase as the best choice to help them fulfill the promise of Linux,” said Dr. Raj Nathan, senior vice president and general manager, Sybase Infrastructure Platform Group. “Unlike other high-profile vendors, Sybase on Linux delivers performance without compromise, providing Unix-like scalability and performance on lower-cost platforms.”
Sybase ASE won the 2003 LinuxWorld Magazine Readers’ Choice Award for “Best Linux Database,” triumphing by a wide margin over offerings from IBM, MySQL and Oracle. This award, in conjunction with over 84,500 downloads of ASE on Linux from www.sybase.com, is proof positive that users worldwide are building their Linux applications on Sybase ASE and finding that it delivers the performance, scalability and reliability that the others do not.
“The Readers’ Choice Awards program recognizes excellence in the solutions provided by the top Linux vendors in the market and is often referred to as the ‘Oscars of the Software Industry,’” said Kevin Bedell, editor-in-chief, LinuxWorld Magazine. “Sybase has achieved unprecedented success in our first LinuxWorld Magazine Award, underscoring the company’s strong presence in one of the most important sectors of the enterprise software market — the RDBMS.”
In addition, ASE 12.5 earned Open Source World Magazine’s “Best SMB Linux Package Award” in the Editor’s Choice 2003 Awards for the complete end-to-end enterprise solution on Linux and Turbolinux 7 Server. Open Source World Magazine gathered a leading group of candidates in hardware and software technology from throughout China and overseas.
“This is the first year we issued The Annual Editor’s Choice Awards to celebrate the best in the software and hardware industries,” said Wanjin Hu, chief executive editor of Open Source World Magazine. “Sybase ASE 12.5 on Linux and Turbolinux 7 Server as the winning enterprise solution for the most comprehensive data management system reinforces Sybase’s leadership with its full range of database products.”
