SPIRIT Packages SMS/MMS Enabled Fixed-line Telephone on Single Chip

1/21/2004 - SPIRIT (www.spiritDSP.com), the biggest eXpressDSP software house in Europe (Texas Instruments processor sales data 2001), offers a complete software package for developing Fixed-MMS phones. Using the software from SPIRIT telecommunications companies get the opportunity to produce single-chip Home Phones capable of sending and receiving SMS and MMS messages from mobile networks.

Home phones able to exchange SMS and MMS messages with mobile phones by connecting to SMS/MMS gateway server via regular phone lines are now considered to be the most innovative telecom service emerging in the world. Experts say Fixed-MMS will soon become a common application in telecommunication networks. The common based F-MMS standard will allow for interoperability between mobile and fixed MMS and will open the door for new services and exciting terminal equipment designs.

All these features make Fixed-MMS service more and more demanded all over the world and the market of Fixed-MMS enabled phones is now estimated to be several billion USD.

SPIRIT solution is based on C54CST chip and is very simple in development and integration. Modem, voice and telephony algorithms ROM-ed into C54CST chip plus MMS/SMS viewer application provide solid base for developing fully-functional fixed-line phone devices able to transmit and receive multimedia messages.

Being the heart of the device C54CST is used for:

All you need for successful development of your fixed-line phone featuring MMS is TI C54CST chip and MMS/SMS viewer software application integrated with it, making your telecommunication device more cost-effective and reducing your time-to-market. Moreover, F-MMS technology can be supported not only by regular phones but by any device connected to the telephone line - fax machines, small PBXs, as well as gateways.

"F-MMS is not in competition with MMS on the mobile market", - says Andrew Sviridenko, founding CEO of SPIRIT. "A mobile phone is a purely personal device, and people keep them out of home most of the time. An MMS mobile phone needs a counterpart at home, to provide the best communication experience, and this will be the F-MMS terminal. Moreover, the cost of F-MMS communication over fixed telephone lines is structurally lower than the cost of communication over cellular links.

SPIRIT now has two major deployments of Fixed-MMS phones based on SPIRIT modem and telephony solutions, both of them in Europe. A range of companies from international F-MMS consortium are using SPIRIT technologies for their F-MMS phone products. Based on feedback from our customers, I have to say that both deployments have successfully passed internal and interoperability testing with SMS and MMS gateways."
