1/21/2004 - Enea Embedded Technology, formerly OSE Systems, announced that it has partnered with Vapid Software to provide embedded event logging for the OSE real-time operating system. Enea will resell the Vapid Log event logging system, including out-of-the-box Vapid Log support for the OSE RTOS.
“The ability to record and analyze events such as error conditions, login, connection establishment, and debug information is crucial to embedded system development, operation, and field diagnosis,” said Lance Boyd, vice president of sales at Enea Embedded Technology. “It is especially important for the large, distributed systems that OSE is optimized for. We look forward to reselling Vapid Log and offering it to our OSE customers.”
“Vapid Log’s event logging facilities provide tremendous visibility into the execution of embedded programs, greatly simplifying system level debug, analysis, and field diagnostics,” added Mike Hanna, CEO of Vapid Software. “Vapid Log represents a commercial quality alternative to internal development, allowing customers to focus on core functionality and to design and debug more efficiently.”
Vapid Log is a general-purpose event logging system, designed from the ground up for embedded systems. Vapid Log allows application developers to record a wide variety of system events, including user interactions, error conditions, debug information, and security notifications. This capability enhances visibility while developing, using or supporting the product.
Vapid Log combines an embedded target agent with a host-based manager. The Vapid Log Agent, implemented as a library of C/C++ routines that are linked with the target application, manages the logs and configuration on the target processor. The agent, which requires no blocking or context switching to perform logging, supports up to eight separate logs with user-defined contents, provides prioritized event handling to gracefully handle system overloads, supports multiple processors, and may be configured either statically or dynamically at run time.
The Vapid Log Manager is a host application that provides event capture, display and analysis capabilities. The Vapid Log Manager collects log entries from the target system and displays them using filters specified by the developer. The Log Manager provides multiple event views with individual filters, delivers target and global event statistics, and can store and retrieve the event logging and display configuration to facilitate repeat evaluations.
OSE is a memory-protected real-time operating system optimized for distributed, fault-tolerant applications that demand the utmost in reliability, security, and availability. OSE's real-time kernel provides true deterministic real-time behavior, and features an application- and device-independent message-passing protocol that makes it easy to develop distributed applications for homogenous and heterogeneous multiprocessor networks. OSE also features a complete networking solution that includes TCP/IP and other networking/security protocols, as well as dynamic download, which enhances flexibility by enabling new applications to be downloaded to systems as they operate in the field.
Vapid Log is available immediately from Enea Embedded Technology starting at USD 10,000 for a 10-seat, unlimited project license.
