1/16/2004 - The Global Technology Distribution Council (GTDC), a worldwide industry association dedicated to defining and promoting the role of wholesale distribution in a successful and healthy information technology (IT) channel, announced that Roy Vallee, chairman and CEO of distributor Avnet, Inc., has been named chairman for the Council for the 2004/2005 term.
Vallee is a 32-year veteran in the distribution industry with a distinguished history in sales and sales management. He was named chairman and CEO of Avnet in July 1998 following his appointment as vice chairman in November 1992, president and COO in March 1992, and his appointment to the board in November 1991.
Vallee has been a member of the Center for Corporate Innovation since 1991 and serves on the board of directors of the RosettaNet industry consortium. He is also a current member of the Advisory Board of Arizona State University and its President's Club. In January 2003, he accepted a post on Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano's Council on Innovation & Technology.
"The GTDC is honored to have Roy Vallee as its new chairman. Under the leadership of its past chairmen -- and now, Roy -- the GTDC is quickly becoming one of the most powerful associations in the IT industry," said Tim Curran, GTDC CEO.
"Over the past several years, the GTDC has made great strides to boost the awareness of IT distribution among key business leaders," said Kent Foster, chairman and CEO, Ingram Micro, Inc., and past chairman of the GTDC. "Roy Vallee's long-standing experience in distribution will prove invaluable in helping steer the GTDC and in evangelizing the important role that two-tiered distribution plays in the way IT products are brought to market."
"The GTDC has proven to be a high-impact trade association since its inception, and I am both honored and challenged to serve as its chairman for the next two years," Vallee said.
As chairman of the GTDC, Vallee joins other powerful names in distribution, each of whom served as Council chairmen, including Foster, who served as the GTDC's chairman in 2003 and was co-chairman with Stephen Kaufman, former CEO of Arrow Electronics, Inc., in 2002, as well as Steve Raymund, chairman and CEO of Tech Data Corp., who was chairman of the GTDC in 2001. Foster and Raymund are still active in the Council, serving on the executive committee that governs the GTDC and its activities.
The GTDC's executive committee includes top executives from several of the association's member companies. The group provides guidance, setting policy and working goals for the association. Executive committee members include the GTDC's Tim Curran, Avnet's Roy Vallee, Ingram Micro's Kent Foster, Tech Data's Steve Raymund, and two new 2004 appointments, Art Rhein, president and CEO of Agilysys (formerly Pioneer-Standard), and K.H. Lim, CEO of SiS Technologies Group Asia.
GTDC members include Actebis, Agilysys, Arrow, Avnet, Bell Microproducts, GE Access, Ingram Micro, Magirus AG, Scribona, SiS, Synnex, and Tech Data.
