1/15/2004 - Parasoft, leading provider of Automated Error Prevention software, announced that as part of a continued initiative to proactively address software quality, the Servicing Systems Development division of Countrywide has adopted Jtest into their software lifecycle. With Jtest, the group can automate unit testing and coding standard enforcement throughout their entire department.
“We selected Jtest because it enables us to ensure our standards and best practices are consistently applied,” says Peter Presland-Byrne, First Vice President, Application Architecture for Countrywide Servicing Systems Development. “This automation improves the quality of the solutions we deliver to our business and ensure increased efficiency from the resources available.”
“As we leverage development resources outside of our organization, this tool enables us to measure the quality of the solutions delivered in an automated, fast manner,” says Dorianne Cotter, Executive Vice President for Countrywide Servicing Systems Development. “This consistent quality also fuels our software reuse efforts, ensuring we maximize the value of our IT investments.”
Coding standards are designed to ensure that an entire team adheres to the same coding style so that code is easily integrated and runs without bugs. Without a product to automate their enforcement, development groups usually perform peer code reviews, which can be time consuming and labor intensive. Unit testing is an industry respected practice that helps ensure the robustness of code, however it too is very labor intensive and often gets overlooked in the rush to deliver software. By performing comprehensive white box testing, Jtest works to weed out unexpected inputs that can often result in vulnerability to virus attacks or bugs.
“Technology continues to advance and companies are expected to keep up with customer demands without compromising quality or reliability,” said Gary Brunell, Parasoft Vice President of Professional Services. “Testing shouldn’t have to be done manually, and Jtest helps development teams by automating key error prevention practices such as unit testing and coding standards so developers can concentrate on more important things.”
Parasoft Jtest is an Automated Error Prevention product for Java that performs static analysis, unit testing, and regression testing with the click of a button. Jtest is the first development product of its type to automate all aspects of unit testing for Java, including white-box, black-box and regression testing. User-defined test cases and stubs can be added as needed. Jtest also automatically enforces a set of good coding practices, including over 300 industry-standard rules that support Enterprise Java Beans (EJBs), Design by Contract (DbC), JavaServer Page Technology (JSPs), servlets and security. The RuleWizard feature enables users to create and enforce any number of custom coding standards, and tailor the standards enforced to a particular project or group. By integrating Jtest into the development process, developers can increase code stability, reduce testing time, and prevent errors to improve software quality and reliability.
