Intermec Unveils Bluetooth Powered 730 Color Pocket PC Mobile Computer

1/15/2004 - Building on the standards set by its popular 700 Color Series, Intermec introduced the 730 Color mobile computer, a compact, affordable Pocket PC mobile computer equipped with a targeted set of features that includes both BluetoothTM and wireless LAN connectivity as well as a linear imager that delivers high-speed barcode reading performance.

The 730 Color is being demonstrated for the first time at the National Retail Federation annual exposition this week in New York, in Intermec’s booth, number 2127.

The most affordable member of the 700 series, the 730 offers a sharp color display that is easy to read in all lighting conditions, including sunlight. Both its numeric keypad and touch screen make data entry easy, and its light, ergonomic design makes it comfortable to use for an entire shift. The 730 includes built-in wireless LAN and BluetoothTM connectivity and a Lithium-Ion battery that supports a full shift’s work and recharges in four hours.

Superior Scanning Performance
The 730 incorporates the EV10 high-performance scan engine based on Intermec’s popular VISTATM scanning technology. The EV10, the industry’s first bi-linear CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensor to use state-of-the-art active pixel sensor (APS) technology, combines compact size with exceptional scanning performance. This new technology is an innovation that allows the sensor to be dynamically optimized for the type of bar code being read. In effect, pixel shape and sensor sensitivity are modified to quickly read even high quality or damaged 1D or PDF bar codes.

Its high scan rate (200 scans per second) and excellent range (depth of field up to 50 centimeters/19 inches) allows it to read any type of bar code, even poorly printed, damaged, wide or high density, and to operate optimally in any lighting conditions from total darkness to full sunlight. The EV10 uses light emitting diode (LED) illumination to provide bright and sharp aiming, so users can clearly see what they are scanning, even in brightly lit or backlit conditions.

Fully Integrated for Maximum Performance
The 730 is fully integrated, with the radios and imager incorporated into the product design to ensure maximum performance and years of trouble-free service. It’s well suited for stand-alone, client-server, browser-based, or terminal emulation applications.

Its Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software makes it easy to connect to wireless networks, including enhanced e-mail capabilities, and is designed to encourage platform innovation.
