Retailers Increase Efficiency with Intermec's Retail Automation Products
1/15/2004 - Demonstrating the depth and breadth of its retail automation products, Intermec Technologies Corp. this week introduces new computers and accessories ideal for a range of retail applications and demonstrates data collection technology systems that allow retailers to increase efficiency and productivity while making the most of scarce resources. As part of its presence at the National Retail Federation (NRF) show at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, Intermec joins IBM and Cisco to conduct a Q&A session on implementing RFID (radio frequency identification) in retail applications.
“Implementing RFID in Retail” is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Jan. 13 in Room 3D04. Moderated by Mark Roberti, editor-in-chief of RFID Journal, a panel of retail executives from the three companies will present the latest strategies for deploying RFID technology in retail supply chain operations.
Among Intermec products to be featured at NRF:
- The new 730 Color Pocket PC handheld computer, with wireless connectivity and advanced bar code scanning.
- An RFID (radio frequency identification) system featuring Intermec’s Intellitag® IP3 RFID reader, which adds the ability to read and write to Intellitag RFID tags to all Intermec 700 Series Color mobile computers. The 760 demonstration also includes an Intermec EasyCoder® PM4i industrial printer equipped with RFID-readable labels. The PM4i is designed specifically for manufacturing, distribution and warehouse environments where ruggedness and fast throughput are essential for productivity.
- The CK1, a new powerful and affordable Linux®-based, pocket-sized handheld computer for batch data collection worldwide. The CK1 complements Intermec’s broad range of in-store terminal and computer choices and is perfect for applications such as stock and inventory management and competitive price shopping.
“Intermec products optimize automation along the entire retail supply chain,” said Mike Sitek, Intermec senior retail business development manager. “As the only company with a complete range of retail data collection products and expertise – RFID, mobile computers, wireless communications, scanners, bar code printers and media, software tools and professional services – Intermec can offer companies integrated systems that immediately begin to save them time and money.”
Key retail partners joining Intermec in its booth include:
- Cisco Systems, which will demonstrate wireless networking systems.
- Powercart, which will show a battery-powered mobile workstation that allows retailers to move wireless printers and terminals to where they’re needed, not just to where there’s a power outlet.
- Wavelink, whose new software development packages, Studio EDGE and Studio COM, provide more flexibility to create mobile computing applications for Intermec’s 700 Series handheld computers.
- ReefEdge, whose WLAN EcoSystem Retail/Distribution provides real-time access to sensitive data to improve retail supply chain performance.
- TeleSym, whose new VoIP functions, including a PBX application, are available on the 700 Color series and the Intermec CV60 vehicle-mount terminal.
