1/13/2004 - Sun Microsystems, Inc. (Nasdaq: SUNW) and Retek, Inc. announced the grand opening of the world's first iForce Competency Center for Retek. This new center is located in Sun's iForce Solution Center in Menlo Park, California.
Sun has been successfully diversifying its customer base by delivering industry-focused solutions to accelerate customer deployments. The iForce Competency Center for Retek will provide retailers free personalized assistance, including technical architecture assessments, Proof of Concepts (POCs), sizing, tuning and other customer specific benchmarking.
Sun's opening of this latest facility demonstrates its commitment to its business alliance with Retek. Walgreens, Ross Stores, Gymboree, Ann Taylor, Office Depot, and Sainsbury's, among others have already selected Retek on Sun systems.
Utilizing the iForce Competency Center for Retek on the Sun campus, a major US office supply retailer was able to leverage the experience and expertise of a team dedicated to designing network and system infrastructures optimized for specific retailers and Retek. These design efforts resulted in a customized solution architecture while saving the retailer time and millions of dollars. The iForce Competency Center for Retek allowed the retailer to de-risk, optimize and protect the investment they are making in Retek.
"The iForce Competency Center for Retek serves to reduce the risk and guesswork that often accompany new technology purchases," said Peter Baskin, Vice President, Store Strategy at Retek.
"Today's retailers demand cost-saving technology with reduced risk. Sun and Retek are committed to attack this problem systematically, using proven strategies, partners and technologies," said Stuart Wells, Senior Vice President, Market Development Organization, Sun Microsystems. "There is nothing else available to companies that will provide this level of support with such little risk to the customer. Retailers should not hesitate to come try our center, leverage our resources, and gain that competitive edge they are all looking for."
"Sun and Retek are well aligned and committed to open, low-cost systems for retailers," said Baskin. "We're working on similar collaborations with the Sun iForce Centers in Tokyo and Paris as well.
Sun Microsystems has a major presence at NRF (National Retail Federation) Conference in New York from January 11-14 with dozens of software vendors demonstrating the latest technology breakthroughs on Sun systems to meet retailer's needs for retail in real-time, including showcasing its continued leadership around RFID technology.
