Agilent Rolls Out New Handheld Cable and Network Performance Analyzers
1/12/2004 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced the latest versions of its WireScope 350 and FrameScope 350 handheld cable network performance analyzers. Network managers can now utilize enhanced Auto-Cancellation Technology and new RFC-2544 testing to certify Category 6 cable and verify throughput and latency across a network.
Enhanced Auto-Cancellation Technology is a new patent-pending technique that dynamically removes the effects of the test adapters per the requirements of the TIA and ISO cabling standards. This is an improvement over the previous removal technique, giving the user better accuracy and margins. The RFC-2544 test makes the FrameScope 350 the perfect tool for the performance testing and verification of Ethernet links in the Metro network. Using these tests, the user can verify the performance and the bandwidth of an Ethernet path anywhere in their network.
"Many cable and connectivity manufacturers are guaranteeing margins beyond standard Category 6 limits, and measuring at these levels requires greater accuracy," said Steve Witt, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Network Systems Test Division. "The new enhanced Auto-Cancellation Technology method meets these accuracy requirements by dynamically removing the effects of the test adapters from each measurement. The FrameScope 350 RFC-2544 test is a cost-effective method of verifying throughput and bandwidth of Ethernet connections and is being used by many service providers deploying Ethernet in Metro networks."
The WireScope 350 and FrameScope 350 analyzers also offer the following new functionality:
- New Wiremap adapter allows the FrameScope 350 to do Wiremap testing without requiring the optional DualRemote 350
- Reporting for the FrameScope 350 Statistics tool and Error Log
- Ability to display the network database via the Web-based remote control
- Support for showing hierarchy levels on Locate switch port tool
- Description for cable shielding indicator
The WireScope 350 and FrameScope 350 also provide:
- Complete network testing that quickly isolates protocol, configuration, performance and cabling problems
- Network discovery that lets users survey the network and generate a complete list of workstations, switches, routers, servers and other network devices
- Tests installed with multimode or single-mode optical fiber via Fiber SmartProbe attachments
- Expandable test result storage on removable compact flash memory cards
- Automated TIA-606-A Cable Identification Solution
