1/8/2004 - ANT Limited announced that set-top-box and electronic-systems designer Amino Communications is to offer Transparency and Alpha Blending as standard by upgrading to the latest version of the ANT Fresco HTML browser and ANT TV User Interface Environment. ANT Fresco continues to be the primary browser across Amino's entire AmiNET product range because of its 'real world' reliability, speed and compact code-size. ANT Limited is the partner of choice to consumer electronics manufacturers, set-top-box providers and silicon designers worldwide, for TV-interface software, content rendering solutions, and embedded browser technologies.
Using Alpha Blending and Transparency, content developers for ANT Fresco-enabled Amino set-top-boxes can overlay transparent screens on live TV and video pictures for creative display of Picture-in-Picture (PiP), Electronic Programme Guides (EPG), programme information, subtitles and closed-captions, service-provider logos and on-screen instruction guides. This real-time flexibility provided by the ANT-Amino platform offers the most creative and compelling experience to the end user for additional content sent alongside video.
User interfaces built with Alpha Blending and Transparency allow TV and video content to be blended with HTML content on screen. ANT's implementation provides full 8-bits-per-pixel (8bpp) Transparency, which gives 256 levels of transparency for each individual pixel. This can be used for fully blended text from built-in font engines, solid areas of the same transparency, and PNG-format bitmap images with alpha channel.
"Alpha Blending on ANT Fresco reinforces ANT's dominant position as the embedded browser of choice for set-top-box providers, silicon vendors and operators worldwide", said Stephen Reeder, Executive Director of Sales and Marketing at ANT Limited. "TV over IP has never looked so good."
"Amino has a long-standing relationship with ANT," said Amino Engineering Director, Paul Fellows. "The addition of such high-quality Transparency and Alpha Blending will reinforce ANT Fresco's dominant position within our deployments."
