TimeSys Targets Aitech's C100 SBC with Embedded Linux Development Tools

1/7/2004 - TimeSys(R) Corporation, a leader in embedded Linux(R) and development tools, announced that it has delivered a ready to run TimeSys Linux RTOS Software Development Kit (SDK) for the C100 VME single board computer (SBC), a high performance single board computer for rugged military systems from Aitech Defense Systems Inc. TimeSys Linux RTOS SDKs with TimeStorm development tools help military embedded systems manufacturers reduce the cost and risk of developing demanding applications by providing a royalty-free embedded Linux real-time operating system and development environment that is ready to run on Aitech's C100 hardware platform. The TimeSys Linux RTOS SDK is the first Linux product available for the C100 VMEbus single-board computer, providing engineers with a royalty-free, open source Linux option for product development and deployment.

TimeSys Linux RTOS SDKs are packaged as complete software development kits that include the industry's only single-kernel Linux real-time operating system, certified device drivers for each peripheral on the C100, hundreds of Linux utilities and libraries, certified Windows- and Linux-hosted GNU toolchains, and TimeSys' optional Windows- and Linux-hosted TimeStorm integrated development environment. Delivered ready to run on the C100, TimeSys Linux RTOS provides the industry's highest performance Linux operating system that meets the range of performance requirements typical of rugged military computer systems.

"Many of our customers are looking to reduce costs through the use of Linux and open source software solutions," said Ralph Palmer, Director of North American Sales and Marketing for Aitech Defense Systems Inc. "With the industry's only single-kernel Linux RTOS and the full-featured TimeStorm IDE, TimeSys' Linux RTOS SDK is an excellent option for our customers looking for a complete, real-time Linux kernel and a full line of integrated cross platform development tools for their designs based on the C100."

"Embedded Linux solutions such as the TimeSys Linux RTOS SDK offer a royalty-free path to reducing development cost and risk, by providing a true Linux real-time operating system with our Eclipse-powered full-featured IDE, TimeStorm," said TimeSys CEO Larry Weidman. "By delivering these products "ready to run" on Aitech's hardware, embedded engineers have a complete hardware-software solution to design, develop and deploy their systems on time and on budget."

The Aitech C100 6U VME single-slot SBC is powered by Motorola's advanced PowerPC(R) G4+ MPC7455 microprocessor with on-chip L1 and L2 caches. Its 733MHz processor combines a powerful processing engine with versatile and flexible I/O capabilities with a variety of I/O interfaces that include three Ethernet ports (one Gigabit and two Fast Ethernet ports), two dual redundant MIL-STD-1553B ports, two IEEE 1394a FireWire ports, two USB 2.0 ports, eight serial ports (six high-speed ports and two UART ports), and up to sixteen general-purpose discrete I/O channels. Available in conduction and air-cooled versions, the C100 is vibration and shock resistant for use in rugged military applications.

The TimeSys Linux RTOS SDK for the Aitech C100 VME SBC is now available from TimeSys sales and distribution channels, and can be purchased online at www.timesys.com/buy. Prices start at $2,395 per developer seat, royalty-free.
